Newsflash:
Hi guys, al weer de laatste update van de week maar ben dit weekend weer terug met de volgende!;
 Spike Lee gaat een film maken over de beruchte L.A. Riots. De regisseur vertelt het volgende over de film; "This isn't about some cavalcade of stars, but rather a truthful and realistic examination of what happened, what the ramifications were and where we are now, in hopes that something like this doesn't happen again."
It's now official, Mission: Impossible III regisseur J.J. Abrams' volgende film wordt Star Trek XI.
Dennis Quaid vertolkt een van de hoofdrollen in de American football flick The Express. De film vertelt het waargebeurde verhaal van Ernie Davis, de eerste zwarte speler die de Heisman Trophy won. Quaid speelt de rol van football coach Ben Schwartzwalder, Gary Fleder (Runaway Jury) regisseert.
Gerard Depardieu is te zien naast Malcolm McDowell, Jacqueline Bisset en Joseph Fiennes in de biopic Vivaldi.
Ander biopic nieuws, Don Cheadle speelt niet alleen de hoofdrol maar zal ook de film over het leven van de legendarische trompettist Miles Davis regisseren. The film met de titel Miles Davis, hoe kan het ook anders, vertelt het ruige leven van deze muzikant met een kort lontje.

Clooney buys Grisham's latest!:
Warner Independent Pictures en producing partners George Clooney en Grant Heslov hebben de rechten gekocht van John Grisham's non-fictie thriller The Innocent Man: Murder and Injustice in a Small Town.
Het geweldige boek is in Nederland uitgegeven onder de titel De Gevangene en vertelt het waargebeurde verhaal van de onschuldige Ron Williamson die door grove fouten van justitie ter dood wordt veroordeeld. Grisham's boeken zijn eerder verfilmd, zoals The Firm, The Rainmaker en The Pelican Brief.
Ben zeer benieuwd naar de verfilming van The Innocent Man.

Terry Rossio talks Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End:
Terry Rossio, co-writer van de Pirates of the Caribbean trilogie, onthuldt aan Sci Fi Wire dat het derde deel, Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End,
een spetterende epic finale zal hebben! Check this out;
"The most difficult thing about writing a trilogy is coming up with the climactic ending of the trilogy. So for that third film, you have not only the usual challenges of coming up with an ending, but somehow you have to have the ending of all endings. The one thing for me that's unique about At Worlds End is that there's a sense of finality to it. Everybody on set feels it as we're winding down shooting. This is a giant, epic fantasy trilogy, and it's coming to a close. There's resolution to the characters. It is that sort of culmination of the storyline. It's coming to a climax. What couldn't be there in Dead Man's Chest is present in At Worlds End. And that's kind of interesting."
Dead Men's Chest was niet echt mijn favoriete film maar At Worlds End zal ongetwijfeld een lekkere visual effects fest worden!

Casting update:
Jet Li, Andy Lau en Takeshi Kaneshiro vormen de cast van de Chinese film Ci Ma (This Violent Land). De film met een budget van $40 miljoen wordt geregisseerd door Peter Ho-Sun Chan (Perhaps Love) en is gebaseerd op een Qing Dynasty verhaal genaamd "The Assassination of Ma", waarin drie broers moeten overleven tijdens een periode van oorlog en politieke onrust. Vin Diesel got kicked out and Timothy Olyphant got in. De acteur, binnenkort te zien als villain in Live Free or Die Hard, speelt de hoofdrol in de videogame flick Hitman. Luc Besson zal de film produceren samen met Chuck Gordon, Adrian Askarieh en Daniel Alter. Source: AICN

Now, let's get back to business, hieronder een overzicht van de laatste gebeurtenissen in Tinseltown;
Martin Scorsese's volgende project wordt de verfilming van Eric Jager's historisch roman The Last Duel: A True Story of Crime, Scandal and Trial by Combat in Medieval France. Het boek vertelt het verhaal van een groot duel tussen de ridders Jean de Carrouges en Jacques LeGris. Het is nog niet zeker of Scorsese de film ook gaat regisseren. Ik zie hem liever een nieuwe gang flick maken! Source: Variety
Susan Sarandon en Jonathan Tucker spelen naast Tommy Lee Jones en Charlize Theron in de film In the Valley of Elah. De film wordt geregisseerd door Paul Haggis (Crash) en gaat over een oorlogveteraan (Jones) die op zoek is naar zijn zoon die in Irak gevochten heeft. Source: The Hollywood Reporter
Tobey Maguire toont geen interesse in een vierde Spider-man film; "This might be a good place to stop - I am not tied contractually to any more Spider-Man movies. Paul Verhoeven (Total Recall) begeeft zich weer op gevoelig terrein. De controversiële regisseur maakt plannen voor een film over het leven van Jezus. Verhoeven legt uit... ehmm... in het Engels weliswaar;
"Well, first of all it is a book. It may be a film after. Essentially it is about Jesus the human being. That's a big step isn't it? To see him only as a human being, and it's as historical as possible. It really goes into the politics of the time and tries to show a lot of things that have been buried and eliminated by Christianity. My scriptwriter told me not to do the movie in the United States because they might shoot me. So I took his advice and decided to write a book about it first.
My portrayal of Jesus' life will be much more realistic and much more historical. I just want to go for what is historically, sociologically and politically real, and is defendable. I mean we couldn't have the scene of Jesus praying at Golgotha when everyone else is sleeping. How could we have a report of that when everyone's sleeping? That's a contradiction in the text already. So all those will be eliminated."
