Cruise and Spielberg declares War:
Groot nieuws op alle filmsites vandaag, Tom Cruise zal Mission: Impossible 3 verplaatsen naar volgend jaar met
als regisseur J.J. Abrams (Alias). Steven Spielberg's film over de Olympische Spelen van 1972
wordt ook vertraagd vanwege script re-writes. En dat betekent, filmfans, dat Cruise en Spielberg nu gaan beginnen
aan The War of the Worlds met een release date ergens in de zomer van 2005. Cruise en Spielberg werkten
eerder samen met Minority Report.

Sofia's next:
Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation) heeft bekend gemaakt dat haar nieuwe film Marie-Antoinette
zal worden. Kirsten Dunst en Jason Schwartzman spelen de hoofdrol in deze film over de legendarische Franse Koningin.
"I've always loved the story of Marie-Antoinette and the decadence of Versailles on the brink of revolution," vertelde Coppola, "and the fact she was just a teenager when circumstances forced her to play a significant role in history."

Kurt Cobain movie:
MTV vermeldt
dat regisseur Gus van Sant (Good Will Hunting) een film over Nirvana's leadsinger Kurt Cobain
heeft afgerond. De film heet Last Days en Gus van Sant vertelt het volgende:
"There are a lot of hypotheses about what happened, but I don't know of any full eyewitness account, just tiny momentary ones. Everyone has a different opinion, but there's not one true, authoritative account. He was just kind of missing.
"Last Days" will have a semi-documentary visual style and won't really offer any conclusions as to why Cobain - or in this case, a Cobain-like character - killed himself, although there will be plenty of hints and suggestions in this fictionalized setting. He's like a Shakespearean Hamlet, reflecting on his personal ghosts and demons, and while I don't know what his were, I'm imagining what they might have been. It's pretty much his thing. He's alone.
We're not showing anything specifically that's challenging anyone. There's not really any drugs in the film. Some people appear to be on drugs, but you don't see any drugs. There is a gun. But it's all oblique. There are a lot of little things that happen that add up to not so much the story as much as the environment. He plays his guitar, he sings a song, a telephone yellow pages salesman visits him, he watches TV. Things like that are very large. But there are no answers, no 'this is causing that.'"

De trailer van Adam Sandler's nieuwe komedie Spanglish is nu online. James L. Brooks regisseert de komedie en de vrouwelijke hoofdrol wordt vertolkt door Téa Leoni. Ik vond de trailer niet echt komisch, oordeel zelf en klik op de link.
Latino Review heeft weer nieuwe foto's van de firemen flick Ladder 49. John Travolta en Joaquin Phoenix spelen de hoofdrol, klik op de pic voor meer.

Paul W.S. Anderson talks Alien vs. Predator:
Dark Horizons heeft een goed gesprek
over Alien vs. Predator gevoerd met regisseur Paul W.S. Anderson. Hieronder volgt een paar
antwoorden, hopelijk zullen de twijfels die de die-hard-fans hebben over deze regisseur (me included) verdwijnen:
How does it feel to be taking on not one but two large franchises?
Humongous pressure. In one way, it's absolutely a dream come true. I saw ALIEN when I was a kid at school. Every day I can't fucking believe I'm on set with an alien, you know every time I see Tom Woodruff in the suit, I'm like: "Wow, it's an alien, excellent!" I'm a huge fan of PREDATOR as well, I had the idea for the movie literally nine years ago, so the idea of being able to make a movie that you've been thinking about for such a long period of time is really a dream come true. At the same time, trying to follow in the footsteps of some of the best filmmakers in the world is incredibly intimidating and keeps me awake many nights.
What was the genesis of the screenplay?
When I saw PREDATOR 2, one of the things that really struck me was the design of the interior of the predator spaceship. It was very Frank Lloyd Wright, it was very Aztec, because Wright was very influenced by Aztec culture and those designs. So that really made me think that if predators have been visiting earth clearly for a long time, and if their spaceship looks like something on earth, they haven't been influenced by us, we've been influenced by them which started me thinking what effects predators as an alien species have had upon the earth. Particularly the Aztec feel of the interior of that spaceship linked with what the Ron Cobb designs they never used for the pyramid in Alien.
The first Alien was really horror oriented and the subsequent ones were more in the action/adventure area. What are you trying to do with this one?
It's really a combination and it's not because of ALIEN, it's because of PREDATOR, which is more action-oriented. This movie has a slow build, which is more akin to ALIEN, but then the last 45 minutes is a pretty relentless action ride which has much more to do with ALIENS or PREDATOR.
What'll the rating be on this?
We're not making any specific rated movie. We're making the movie that we're making and it'll get the rating that it gets. There is so much unpleasantness in this movie. I mean, it's pretty gruesome, it's got all the traditional stuff, the face-huggers and the eggs.
Ik denk dat Paul wel een aardige AVP film zal leveren. De film draait vanaf deze week in de Amerikaanse bioscopen...

U.S. Box Office Aug 06-08:
Tom Cruise heeft nog steeds genoeg starpower om de nummer 1 positie te bemachtigen in de Amerikaanse Box Office!
De winnaar van vorige week, The Village, moet het met een tweede plaats doen. The Bourne Supremacy
doet het weer prima met een derde plaats en een totale opbrengst van $124 miljoen.
Deze week gaat de strijd verder met Alien vs. Predator vs. The Princess Diaries 2 vs. Yu-Gi-Oh! Who will win...?

Bishop talks AVP and other disturbing news:
Lance "Bishop" Henriksen, de robot uit de Alien films, sprak met Scifi Wire over
zijn rol in de Alien vs. Predator film. In deze film speelt hij een rijke zakenman Charles Bishop Weyland,
de maker van de Bishop robots en met deze rol is het cirkeltje rond:
"For me it's like a cycle, like a closure for that character. Not that they couldn't bring me back down the road. I mean, they did it, obviously. But this is a prequel. When I walked on the set and saw the alien and the predator, I was back immediately. I remember being in London shooting that thing. It was instantaneous."
Henriksen is er van overtuigd dat AVP onder de fans een groot succes zal worden:
"I don't think that anything people are hoping for is going to be missed and we've gone even further than that. The biggest disappointment would be, of course, if you failed it. But it's not going to happen."
Maar ik vond ook verontrustend AVP nieuws. IESB vermeldt het volgende:
"The studio is rushing the editors and the special effects houses to get this film ready by it's target release date of August 13th but they are not confident that it will be done by opening day. To make things worse 20th Century Fox has had to cancel the Junket for the film because they know that the print will not be ready in time. Junkets are normally held 1 to 2 weeks prior of the release date so the journalists can see the film and interview the talent involved and finally review the film. Even the films Red Carpet World Premiere that was going to be held at the Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood on August 10th has been cancelled due to the same problem."
Het komt vaker voor dat een grote blockbuster film alles uit de kast moet halen om de film op tijd uit te kunnen brengen.
Het nadeel is dat door de tijdsdruk, een studio of regisseur en natuurlijk het publiek het moet doen met een "afgeraffelde" versie. In sommige
gevallen wordt de uiteindelijke versie in de vorm van een director's cut uitgebracht. Het betekent wel dat de theater
versie veel beter had kunnen zijn wanneer de regisseur meer tijd zou krijgen om de film af te ronden... We'll just have to wait and see, keep our fingers crossed.

Newsflash:
Colin Farrell en Ben Affleck hebben beide een cameo in Elektra waar Jennifer Garner de hoofdrol in speelt.
Check out de aardige trailer van After the Sunset op de official website. De cast bestaat uit Pierce Brosnan, Woody Harrelson en Salma Hayek. Brett Ratner regisseert de heist flick.
VinXperience heeft interessant nieuws; het schijnt dat Katzenberg van Dreamworks aan het onderhandelen is met Sylvester Stallone om Rocky 6 te maken. Sylvester en Sage Stallone gaan waarschijnlijk weer vader en zoon spelen in de boksfilm. Nu komt het, de tegenstander van Rocky zou wel eens Vin Diesel kunnen worden! Het verhaal draait om de grote comeback van Rocky, Stallone heeft zich laten inspireren door de comeback van pro bokser George Foreman.
