Halo finds director!:
Neill Blomkamp will make his feature film debut with the sci-fi epic Halo! The director made a few impressive short films and commercials. "As a gaming fan, I'm excited to bring Halo's premise, action and settings to the screen with all the specificity and reality today's technology can provide," executive producer Peter Jackson said, "Fran and I are intrigued by the unique challenges this project offers, and we're delighted to be working again with our friends at Universal, and with our new ones at Fox and Microsoft. With Neill on board, I'm even more excited by the potential of this project."
To be honest, I'm not familiar with the Halo universe, but I'm always in for a cool sci-fi flick. I think it's also great that Jackson selected a fresh new filmmaker for the project. I'll keep you posted... and I'll be back with a new update this weekend!

The Boys From Brazil reloaded:
Rush Hour and X3 director Brett Ratner will remake the 1978 thriller The Boys From Brazil. The original film starred Laurence Olivier and Gregory Peck and revolved around Nazis in South America who wanted to revive the Third Reich through the use of cloning. The writers of the remake will stick close to the original but will set the action in the present day.

Christian Bale talks The Dark Knight!:
Actor Christain Bale commented on the Batman sequel with the coolest title, The Dark Knight, and also talked a bit about Heath Ledger who plays The Joker! Here ya go:
"I just love that title. You know, nothing's written in stone yet, but I like, very much, that it doesn't have 'Batman' written in the title. This take on Batman of mine and Chris' is very different from any of the others and everything else always had Batman in the title. I think this is kind-of distancing it even further and saying, Hey, this is a whole different creature from what has come before.
Heath is very much into what Chris had done with the first one and he's very passionate about the role. And he's a really good actor so we're going to see something very special from him."
Chris Nolan returns as the movie's director, the script is currently being written. I'll keep you posted, guys.

Plissken returns?!:
It's a rumour, but a very cool one, so take it with a chunk of salt. According to Bloody Disgusting, John Carpenter and Kurt Russell are in talks for a new Snake Plissken adventure entitled Escape From Earth! Here's what the site posted:
"A major meeting was held at Paramount last week with both John Carpenter and Kurt Russell in attendance. The topic -- preparing for a third entry in the Snake Plissken chronicles entitled Escape From Earth. Apparently, Carpenter completed a script for the project eight years ago but the studio has now taken an interest in it after Russell demanded doing it before signing on with the studio for a three picture deal."
I'd love to see Kurt wearing the eye-patch again!
Updated 08/08/06: Well, guys, as expected, the above rumour is false according to AICN. They've talked to John Carpenter who cleared things up; "Escape from Earth is an idea we had several years ago, but it never really got any further than that."

Kevin Munroe says cowabunga!:
Kevin Munroe, writer and director of the upcoming animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, is determined to go back to the roots of the Turtles and do less 'cowabunga' and more reality;
"It is a bigger story and a more serious story, but at the same time you can't deny what made the Turtles what they are. It's that magic mix of action and character-based comedy. The threat that our villain poses is unleashing an army of monsters into New York City. It's about world domination, and it doesn't feel like it takes place on three sound stages that we could afford to build in live action.
It seems like with everything that has been done before, and it's mostly for budgetary reasons, it feels like if you make the right, wrong turn, you can stumble upon the Turtle lair. I really want to make it feel like you have to really know where this thing is; you go into the belly of the city to find where the lair is. We actually follow Mikey down, and we see all the architecture change from modern concrete to the brick and rusted pipes, and the color gets sucked out the deeper he goes."
