Jan de Bont's next project:
Free Dutch morning newspaper Spits talked to director Jan de Bont who's busy promoting his latest, Tomb Raider 2. The director, born here in Holland, revealed what he wants to do next: "I'm reading a couple of scripts and I'm very interested in doing Dust. It's from the same guy who was responsible for the Jurassic Park concept and it's about the influence of genetic manipulation on our food chain and nature. It's a great story but first I need some rest after making Tomb Raider 2."
The newspaper doesn't report if the "Jurassic Park guy" is Michael Crichton...

Jackie Chan's Around the World in 80 Days:
Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf interviewed Jackie Chan on the set of Around the World in 80 Days. The set is build in Berlin and is being used for shots of San Francisco, Paris and India. The 49 years old actor is having a great time shooting the pic and I've translated the Dutch article for the english readers: Jackie Chan looks tired according to the reporter. They've almost finished shooting after four months of hard work. Jackie Chan's reaction when they approached him for the movie:"I agreed to work on it without reading the script because I know the producers and trust them. I also follow my instincts."
The reporter asked if it's getting hard to still do the stunts at his age:"I'm not worried and I'm not a person who makes future plans. I can always fall back on other skills that I've developed over the years like stunt co-ordinator or director. But at this moment, my age is not a problem."
Around the World in 80 Days, based on Jules Verne's book, is directed by Frank Coraci (The Waterboy) and also stars Steve Coogan and Cecile de France. The newspaper also placed some nice pics but I can't show them to you because my scanner isn't working properly...
But I've got other Jackie Chan stuff, Latino Review posted The Medallion pics. The movie will be released August 22. Click on the pic for a larger version, click here to see more!

Cameron's new project:
Director James Camerons has found a new project, a biopic focusing on the freediving couple Francisco "Pipin" Ferreras and Audrey Mestre. The husband and wife were world-class champions of the dangerous sport of diving as far as you can descend on just one breath of air. Audrey Mestre died when she tried to break her own record of 557.7 feet.
The freedive project will not be Cameron's next movie, he's working on a mysterious 3-D project at the moment. (Could it be Aliens 3D?)

xXx 2 update:
S.W.A.T. producer Neil Moritz updated About.com on the xXx sequel: "I can tell you that it takes place in the United States (and no exotic loacation). We just ultimately decided that this fit the characters better, or actually was something a little different than what you'd expect. It's not necessarily that it has to be exotic. It just has to be really cinematic. There's plenty in the United States that we can have."
Director Rob Cohen will not helm xXx 2, it's unknown who's going to replace him.

After The Sunset finds director:
Brett Ratner has decided what to do next after he left the Superman project. Ratner is going to focus on New Line's heist movie Ater the Sunset. Pierce Brosnan stars as a master thief who plans to retire after his last big score. FBI agent (Woody Harrelson), shows up to make sure the thief is really retired, a new cat-and-mouse game of friendship, suspicion and thievery begins.
Doesn't it sound familiar? No word on the developments of Rush Hour 3...

T3 DVD details:
The Arnold Fans asked Terminator 3 director Jonathan Mostow what we can expect of the T3 DVD. Mostow revealed some interesting things: "Well, we have some cool things for the DVD. Of course we have the commentaries, but these commentaries are maybe going to be a little bit more interesting then you're used to. I am really encouraging the people that I worked with on the movie is to really get specific about the nuts and bolts on what they do and how they contributed to the movie. We've got some great features on the movie that show behind the scenes, how we made the special effects, and I was thinking of making a DVD where you can actually build your own visual effect with materials of the movie. So I am kind of exited how it's going to be. It's really cool."

Return of the King update!:
Director Peter Jackson updated The Lord of the Rings Fan magazine about the last chapter Return of the King: "We're shooting, we're cutting, the visual effects still have a long way to go before they are done, we haven't started recording the music yet - so for me there may be light at the end of the tunnel, but the premiere in December still seems a long, long way away from where I am at the moment. I have experienced my last day of shooting Elijah Wood as Frodo and my last day of shooting Viggo (Mortensen) as Aragorn. Those to me are more profound than what my personal last day is going to be."
"It is the movie that I want to be most proud of, so I am working very hard to make sure that happens. I think when people look back at the three films, I want Return of the King to be the one that really lingers with them in terms of the emotional experience. I want it to be the reason why we made the other two films."
Sigh, ...I can't wait!

Pitch Black - The Chronicles of Riddick update!:
The guys from CHUD made a trip to the set of Pitch Black II, a.k.a. The Chronicles of Riddick: "These are the largest sets I've ever seen. Larger than "Men In Black II," larger than "Planet of the Apes," larger than "Looney Tunes: Back in Action" (no, that last one's not a joke - there is a MASSIVE set that was built for the finale of that pic). It takes place 5 years after the original "Pitch Black." Yes, it's a trilogy. Think "Lord of the Rings" focusing on Riddick with "Pitch Black" being "The Hobbit." Vin Diesel and Keith David are the only returning actors, though the character of "Jack" (the girl pretending to be a guy who thinks Riddick is cool) is returning, but is being played by Alexa Davalos of "Angel" fame. It's a 77-day shoot and they're about halfway through. They're only shooting the first one at present and are aiming to have it be "stand alone," not a cliffhanger-type pic like "Reloaded" or something. They made a conscious decision to move away from "horror film" and into "science fiction epic."
Writer/director David Twohy, responsible for the first movie, also helms the sequel!

US Box Office August 1-3:
No surprises last weekend, the third American Pie movie, American Wedding, took over the top spot with $34 million. Spy Kids still rules at number two earning $20 million. Tomb Raider 2 was kicked out of the top five, holding on to number 6. Other newcomer Gigli with Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck entered...man, it's too hot here in Holland to write about this movie. Gigli will probably bumped out of the top ten by the end of the week.

Here's The Top Ten:

2. Spy Kids 3D: Game Over - $20.1M / $69.1M since opening

4. Seabiscuit - $17.5M / $49.1M
5. Bad Boys II - $12.7M / $111.3M
6. Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life - $11.3M / $42.6M

Terminator 4:
I've seen Terminator 3 a couple of times now and it's getting better and better. Everbody who's seen the movie knows all options are open for another Terminator movie. Dark Horizons posted some interesting news from a reliable source on Terminator 4: "T4 is essentially a go picture. Figures for T3 weren't fantastic, but still quite good. Very good. The entire cast has signed for another one. I believe there's a plan for Arnold to do this and King Conan back to back - but the latter film still has a question mark over its head. Depending on how the Wachowski's do with "Matrix 3", it mightn't be happening yet."

Stan Winston interview:
Movie Hole talked to spfx Guru Stan Winston who revealed some interesting stuff:
"Right now, I'm in the middle of working on a wonderful movie over at Columbia - with Laura Ziskin, who did "Spider-Man", called "Constantine", based on a comic called "Hellblazer". I can't say too much, because of a confidentially agreement I have with them, but the script is wonderful and we're working on some great character designs for it."
Sounds great? You gotta read this, seems that Mr. Winston is a bit disappointed he didn't get asked to be a part of was the upcoming Aliens vs. Predator:
"I wanted to be involved in that so badly. I mean I created the Predator. I drew him up on a plane ride with Jim Cameron. And then Aliens, I created the Queen. So they're like my babies, so I wasn't very happy that I'm not asked to be a part of it. Pride of Ownership, I guess. Still, I wish them the best of luck, and just hope they do the film some justice."
No way, man, you can't make this movie without the effects of Stan Winston!!!
