Newsflash:
Hi guys, another extremely hot day in the Low Lands, so I keep it nice and short. Here's a quick rundown of the latest movie news:
Guy Ritchie (Snatch) has signed on to write and direct the gangster film Static. The story centers on a wrongly imprisoned gangster who wants to set things straight. Source: The Hollywood Reporter
Paul Verhoeven is back with a good ol' fashioned Dutch flick about WWII. Click here to check out the trailer for Zwartboek (means blackbook). The trailer isn't that great and it really looks like a "Dutch" flick with all the typical ingredients like violence, sex and war.
The official site for Robert Zemeckis' new animated film Beowulf is online right here. The cast includes Ray Winstone, Angelina Jolie, Crispin Glover, Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich... wait Glover and Malkovich in the pic? That's pretty awesome!
Fletch is back! But sans Chevy Chase though... Spin City and Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence will write and direct Fletch Won. That means Kevin Smith is no longer involved, Jason Lee will probably not play the leading role, that's too bad cause I love My Name is Earl, so Scrubs-star Zach Braff could be the new frontrunner for the role. U.S. Box Office July 21-23:
The Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is still the number 1 movie, already earning a total gross of over 320 million bucks in just three weeks. The Ivan Reitman comedy My Super Ex-Girlfriend starring Uma Thurman flopped big time, debuting at number 7. Here's the rest of the Top Ten:

Grindhouse cast:
My favorite directors, Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez, both working on '70s exploitation flicks, two seperate movies that will be bridged by a bunch of nasty fake trailers... man, I can't wait to see this.
The cast of Grindhouse is complete. Kurt Russell, Zoe Bell, Rosario Dawson, Vanessa Ferlito, Jordan Ladd and Rose McGowan will star in Tarantino's part called Death Proof.
Freddy Rodriguez, Rose McGowan, Josh Brolin, Naveen Andrews, Marley Shelton, Michael Biehn(!), Jeff Fahey and Michael Parks (I love this guy!) will star in Rodriguez's section called Planet Terror.
I'll leave you with a Comic Con quote from Tarantino about casting Kurt Russell who will play the slasher; "You've never seen him like this before,... never, ever, ever!"

The Protector trailer and poster!:
Tony Jaa, star of the explosive Ong Bak, is back in a new Thai martial arts film called The Protector, a.k.a. Tom yum goong. The film also stars a buddy of mine who did a few stunts and fight sequences for the flick. Anyway, the trailer is now online right here and I've also got the exclusive poster! Click on the pic for a larger version.

Bryan Singer talks Superman sequel!:
It really sucks that Supes did a bit less than expected at the Box Office, cuz it's a freakin masterpiece (and a lot better than that Pirates flick) but fortunately director Bryan Singer is still in talks to direct a sequel;
"I haven't concluded a deal to do it yet, which is always iffy. But my intention is to do it. My intention is to do it for 2009. And it would be sort of like, where this one sort of introduced the characters and the universe to some degree, which required some measure of reintroduction, because it had been several years since it had been around, this one, the next one, enables me to get all Wrath of Khan on it."
Excellent! Singer also mentioned that an alien villain will be in the sequel... well, guys, maybe the title of the sequel could be General Zod Returns?!

Stargate sequels?:
Producer Dean Devlin confirmed at the San Diego Comic Con that he is in talks with MGM Studios to shoot part two and three to his original 1994 sci-fi film Stargate!
"We've always envisioned it as a trilogy," explains Devlin, "Stargate was also supposed to be the first part of three. We had written all three, not the script, but the story, when we did the first one and due to the nature of how that film got made, and how MGM has changed so many times, and their commitment to doing the series, they've been very reluctant to do the movie.
Our first movie was only trying to tap into Egyptian mythology. The second was to move into other mythologies. Then the third was to realize that all mythologies are actually tied together with a common thread that we haven't recognized before. So if you make it through all three, hopefully we're tying up all kinds of mysteries on our planet that makes one cohesive story. My hope is that the series could live as beginning when the third movie ends."
Sounds like this could be very cool sequels. The producer also added that he would love to have the original stars Kurt Russell and James Spader back and that director Roland Emmerich will also be involved.
