Riddick Returns:
Universal Pictures heeft bevestigd dat men is begonnen met het filmen van PITCH BLACK, THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK. Het verhaal gaat als volgt:
"Riddick has spent the last five years on the move among the forgotten worlds on the outskirts of the galaxy, eluding mercenaries bent on collecting the price on his head. Now, the fugitive finds himself on planet Helion, home to a progressive multicultural society, which has been invaded by the Lord Marshal (Colm Feore), a zealot who targets humans for subjugation with his army of warriors known as Necromongers.
Exiled to a subterranean prison where extremes of temperature range from arctic nights to volcanic days, Riddick encounters Kyra (Alexa Davalos), the lone survivor from an earlier chapter in his life. His efforts to free himself and Kyra lead him to the Necromonger command ship, where he is pitted against the Lord Marshal in an apocalyptic battle with possibly the fate of all beings-both living and dead-hanging in the balance."
David Twohy, schrijver en regisseur van deel 1, stapt wederom achter de camera voor het vervolg en Vin Diesel speelt uiteraard weer de hoofdrol!

Cool Bad Boys 2 Poster:
Latino Review heeft de nieuwste poster van Bad Boys 2 en het ziet er behoorlijk gelikt uit!
"Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are back - and oh so bad - on the streets of Miami in "Bad Boys II," reuniting them with director Michael Bay and producer Jerry Bruckheimer. Narcotics detectives Mike Lowrey (Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Lawrence) have been assigned to a high-tech task force investigating the flow of designer ecstasy into Miami. Their inquiries inadvertently lead them to a major conspiracy involving a vicious kingpin (Molla), whose ambitions to take over the city's drug trade have ignited a bloody turf war. But Mike and Marcus's friendship and working relationship is threatened when Mike begins to develop feelings for Marcus' sister Syd (Union). Unless they can separate the personal from the professional, the bad boys are in danger of blowing the case and endangering Syd's life in the process."
Bad boys 2 draait deze maand in de Amerikaanse bioscopen, helaas op het moment dat ik naar Nederland moet na mijn korte USA trip. En dan is het een paar maanden wachten want volgens Internet Movie Database draait de film pas in Oktober(!) in Holland...

Kleine Akira update, LXG schrijver James Robinson gaat LXG regisseur Stephen Norrington helpen met de live action version van Manga tekenfilm Akira! Wow, stel je voor Neo Tokyo, Kaneda op zijn rode bike... Manga fan's wet dream...

Cabin Fever Poster:
Een scary poster van de film Cabin Fever is te vinden op de site van Lights out entertainment:"Cabin Fever is an offbeat horror tale about a group of five college friends on vacation at a remote mountain cabin when one contracts a flesh-eating virus. As it spreads among the friends, their true feelings and personalities emerge as they struggle to survive the virus and each other."
De film is geschreven en geregisseerd door Eli Roth en wordt later dit jaar in de bioscopen verwacht.

"If it bleeds, we can kill it":
Movie Hole heeft interessant news over Predator 3. Het schijnt dat screenwriter Sam Park een fantastisch script heeft geschreven genaamd "Predator 3: The deadlier of the species." Park sprak over de eerste Predator film:
"It's one of my favorite sci-fi action films. Some films are great for certain parts. This is a film that works terrifically as a whole and then some. Joel Silver's deft producing and John McTiernan's sure hand at directing came together at the perfect time to realize Jim and John Thomas's suspenseful, smart and witty action script. Arnold. He was born to play Dutch. Somehow the planets aligned, mystic forces gathered and "Predator" dropped into theaters in 1987 causing everything you knew about action and science fiction movies to change."
Sam Parks script pakt het verhaal van Dutch (Schwarzenegger) uit deel 1 op en confronteert hem weer met de Predator: "He turns his back on love to track down the traitor who wiped out his elite squad of soldiers. Two years later it's Dutch who is being secretly stalked by a Predator with a mysterious agenda until it learns that Dutch holds something more dear to him than life. This sends the Predator into its own private hell during the worst snowstorm in New York's recorded history to find Dutch's heart...and rip it out."
Ik verwacht niet dat deze film snel in de bios zal verschijnen maar als Aliens vs. Predator een groot succes wordt, zal Predator 3 project sneller van de grond komen!

Blade III Script Review:
Creature Corner heeft het script van Blade III doorgelezen en een (spoiler filled) review op hun site geplaatst. Ik heb het zelf nog niet gelezen maar de link vind je hier!
"These days a lot of writers set out on film endeavors with the intention of creating a trilogy, in the end though, they get weak in the knees and skimp out on the ultimate payoff," writes Ryan in his summation of Goyer's BLADE III script. "BLADE III achieves its purpose, to bring a hero's journey to an exciting end. Leave it to Goyer - who happens to be directing this installment himself - to save this Blade story for himself."
One word: Cool! Ben erg benieuwd hoe Goyer het laatste avontuur van de Daywalker gaat verfilmen.

First Episode III Pic:
Het eerste plaatje van Star Wars Episode III is online verschenen maar sommige sites zijn meteen benaderd door Lucasfilms om het plaatje te verwijderen. Ik durf het zelf ook niet te plaatsen maar jullie kunnen Anakin Skywalker (nog) wel zien op deze site.

Terminator talks True Lies 2 :
Arnold Schwarzenegger sprak over de status van True Lies 2 tijdens de promotie van T3:
"The script is written, but as you know, after 9/11 happened, Cameron was worried because there's an airplane scene - a terrific airplane scene - that didn't have anything to do with the terrorism that we had in 9/11, but it was a great fight scene inside the plane while the plane goes down and this kind of thing. It was a very important moment in the movie, and he felt like he can't do that and therefore has to rewrite it ... These things take a long time."

Tiny News bits:
Joe Dante is benaderd om een nieuwe Gremlins film te maken. Dante is helaas niet echt enthousiast omdat de studio CGI wilt gebruiken en Dante voorstander is van old school special effect; animatronics. Source: Dark Horizons

Fighting Fish Update!:
Vaste movieXplosion.com readers weten dat ik druk bezig ben met het promoten van "Fighting Fish", waarom? Omdat het onze eerste martial arts movie is, geen Pinkeltje, Kruimeltje of Flodder in Irak maar een keiharde Dutch-Fu actie spektakel!!!
Associate Producer Wouter Smit liet me weten dat de opnames erop zitten. Het resultaat is een mix van stijlvolle romantiek en sensationele Martial Arts scenes! De cast bestaat o.a. uit Wu Shu specialist Kim Ho Kim, Karate Champion Ron Smoorenburg en sinds kort is ook Wu Shu Champion Bao Xian Fei van de partij. Click on the pic to see The Champ in action. The Brothers Grimm in full production:
Terry Gilliam (The Fisher King) is afgelopen weekend begonnen met het filmen van The Brothers Grimm in Praag (waar de laatste tijd alle Hollywood films worden opgenomen). Het project heeft een budget van maar liefst $75 miljoen en bevat topacteurs zoals Matt Damon, Heath Ledger, Lena Heady, Peter Stormare en Jonathan Pryce:
"MGM and Miramax, via its Dimension subsidiary, are teaming up on the fantasy production, which casts Damon and Ledger as Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, the fairy-tale brothers, who in Gilliam's version are "Jake and Will," two 19th-century con artists who meet their match when they encounter an actual curse. Gilliam, Ehren Kruger and Tony Grisoni wrote the screenplay."

Nieuwe trailers zijn online te vinden! De Barry Levinson comedy "Envy" vind je hier. In deze film spelen Ben Stiller, Jack Black de hoofdrol en Christopher Walken in een geweldige bijrol. De film gaat in augustus in The States in premiere.

Frakes not directing Superman:
Goed nieuws, Jonathan Frakes is NOT directing Superman, I repeat not directing Superman! Het leek er even op dat de boel al rond was maar toen men de vraag stelde aan Frakes of hij Supes ging regisseren, antwoordde hij als volgt:
"I haven't heard anything. Ironic that my agent's here, you should mention it to him. Good News! I'll spread the word!"
