Newsflash:
Geweldige headlines in de Newsflash om de week af te sluiten:
 Robert Rodriguez gaat Frank Miller's geweldige zwart-wit comic Sin City verfilmen. Rodriguez heeft een negen minuten durende openings scène gefilmd om Miller en andere acteurs te overtuigen. Josh Hartnett en Marley Shelton hebben inmiddels getekend voor Sin City, andere cast members zijn ook al bekend maar dat wordt nog geheim gehouden. Source: Variety

Kill Bill Vol. II and Harry Potter pics:
Empire Movies heeft weer een tweede
golf aan Kill Bill Vol. II pics op de site geplaatst! Coming Soon
presenteerde een shitload nieuwe Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban pics. De eerste twee
Potter films vond ik niet zo geweldig maar deel drie is door Alfonso Cuaron (Y tu mamá también) geregisseerd dus ik
denk dat Prisoner of Azkaban mij meer zal aanspreken. Op de site van AICN
is in ieder geval een zeer positieve recensie te lezen over Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Klik op de
plaatjes voor grote versies!

Underworld 2 coming up!:
Selene gaat verder met haar strijd tegen de weerwolven in een vervolg op Underworld! Kate Beckinsale
en Scott Speedman zullen weer van de partij zijn als lovely Vampire-Lycan couple. Len Wiseman is wederom verantwoordelijk
voor de regie.

Goyer talks Blade III and Batman:
Het is The Week of The Bat want ik heb wederom geweldig Batman nieuws. Eerst even een kleine
warming up met het laatste nieuws over Blade: Trinity.
AICN mocht
de set bezoeken van de derde Blade film. Ze spraken met writer/director David Goyer die meer
verklapte over de film:
"Digital Dimension is doing a lot. They're doing a lot of the "ashings", which are way, way more sophisticated than they were on the second film. And there's different kinds of "ashings", too, because there's different kinds of weapons. So, they're doing a bunch. There's probably, like, a hundred ashings. Giant Killer Robot... they're doing a bunch of stuff. They're doing CG stuff, and transformation stuff, because the main villain turns into a sort of beast creature at the end. They're doing some vampire dogs. Who else are we using? Amalgamated Pixels. I don't know… about nine different vendors."
David Goyer sprak ook over de nieuwe Batman film! Goyer schreef het script voor regisseur Chris Nolan met Christian Bale als the Caped Crusader. Goyer vertelde het volgende over Batman en Christian Bale:
The SUPERMAN stuff hasn't affected you guys at all?
"I think it affected us positively. That was such a disaster that they're approach was, "Let's get a filmmaker's filmmaker, and, then, let's get a writer who has sort of more credibility in his stuff." The movie that they're making, and I think they started shooting in Iceland today, is basically my first draft. They said, "Okay, SUPERMAN got all fucked up; let's let you guys do what you do," and they did. When we met with them, we said, "Is there anything that you don't want to see, or that you can't see?" And they said, "Okay, it's got to be PG-13." That wasn't really difficult. And they said, "It's got to be romantic," which we didn't have a problem with."

What did you think of Bale? Had you met him before?
"We were torn between Bale and Jake Gyllenhaal, because we wanted to go in a different direction. But I think Bale at the end… I loved Jake, but Bale just seemed the right way. Knowing the story that we're telling… it's hard for everyone else because they don't know the story that we're telling, but it ultimately was the right way to go. And Michael Caine… I was just freaking out when we got Michael Caine. And all of the other casting has been… you know, I had a very schizophrenic experience on the project, because I was a professional doing a job crafting, sort of reinventing Batman with Chris, being very aware of how fucked up the previous movies were. And being very conscious of the fact that we didn't want to let the fans down. But at the same time, I was like a fan going, "Holy shit, I can't believe they're going to let us do this."
Ander Batman nieuws, dat overigens op dit moment in productie gaat,
The Hollywood Reporter meldt dat Ken Watanabe de rol van bad guy Ra's Al Ghul zal spelen (dus niet Liam Neeson zoals
vorige week bekend werd gemaakt). Al Ghul heeft een ingenieus plan om op zijn manier de orde te handhaven op deze
wereld. De rest van de cast bestaat uit Michael Caine als Alfred, Katie Holmes als love interest, Liam Neeson als
Bruce Wayne's mentor Henri Ducard en Morgan Freeman als Lucius Fox, een werknemer van Wayne's Enterprises. Ken Watanabe
is genomineerd voor beste bijrol in The Last Samurai.
Tot slot vertelde de hoofdrolspeler Christian Bale iets meer over zijn
rol als The Batman!!!:
"I think Batman is probably more aggresive than most everybody I've ever played, you know. I wanted to take it, because, firstly, when I heard that there was a consideration of doing more of the movies, I just felt like I hadn't been quite satisfied with what I'd seen in the other movies. Certainly in the last two.
It seemed as though there was actually a real character here, that it wasn't just a bland kind of superhero, one-dimensional. With him there really was an interesting character to be played. I loved the kind of fantastical notion of the superhero, but at the same time being able to bring a psychologically interesting element to that.
Then Chris Nolan is directing who, you know, is not a director I would have expected to do this movie. So that was ideal to me, I liked the fact that the people hiring Chris, hiring myself, were going with people who did want to reinvent the story and have it not just be a continuation."

Peter Jackson talks King Kong:
Peter Jackons sprak met Reuters over zijn King Kong film:
"It's too early to say about cast, apart from Naomi Watts, who's now confirmed. We need to write for a few more weeks to establish exactly what type of other characters we are looking for. I'm hoping there will be suitable roles for one or two "LOTR" actors. As far as crew go, "LOTR" veterans include Jan Blenkin and Caro Cunningham, both of whom are producing "Kong" with me; Andrew Lesnie is on board as (director of photography); Grant Major is production designer; Dan Hennah is supervising art director. Both Weta Workshop, led by Richard Taylor, and Weta Digital have been at work on "Kong" for some months now. Howard Shore is doing the music. We are talking to all other crew at the moment and imagine the majority will be "LOTR" veterans."

Chris Nolan's Batman film!:
Dennis Quaid is "close" to being signed for the part of Jim Gordon, the Gotham City beat cop that will one day become police Commissioner. Gordon has an important role to play in the picture. One might even say that fate will deal him -- and subsequently the Dark Knight -- a card that sets the course for their future and that of Gotham City.
Cillian Murphy is playing The Scarecrow, but you already know that.
At present, the concept for this film's Batmobile is unlike the looks of Batman's wheels from the four earlier films. Instead, this incarnation of the Batmobile -- at least at this stage of development -- might look like it has more in common with the behemoth depicted in Frank Miller's legendary THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS comic book series. As our source tells us, "the Batmobile will be big and bulky, like an urban tank."
There is talk about changing the working title of the project to BATMAN BEGINS.
One of the film's major action scenes will take place inside a Tibetan palace and will not involve Batman -- but a pre-Batman Bruce Wayne. Much ass-kicking will take place inside that palace, and it will be upon the film's main villain, or more specifically, his henchmen.
Wow, geweldig, hoop dat we snel The Batsuit te zien krijgen!

U.S. Box Office Feb 20-22:
Adam Sandler's en Drew Barrymore's 50 First Dates is voor de tweede week winnaar van de U.S. Box office.
De film staat nog steeds op nummer één met een opbrengst van $21 miljoen en een totaal bedrag van $72 miljoen! Andere
nieuwkomers Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, Welcome to Mooseport, Eurotrip
hebben verder niet veel schade aangericht, Meg Ryan's boksfilm Against the Ropes was zelfs de grote
verliezer met een achtste plaats. Here's the Top Ten:

Exorcist: The Beginning update:
Variety heeft meer info over de vertraagde Exorcist: The Beginning.
Regisseur Paul Schrader heeft het project verlaten wegens creatieve meningsverschillen. Renny "Cliffhanger" Harlin
mocht orde op zaken stellen en heeft de afgelopen maanden nieuwe beelden opgenomen met als "wrap up date" 22 Februari, jl.
Het schijnt dat geen enkele frame van Paul Schrader zal belanden in de uiteindelijke versie. Schrader's film zou
te matjes zijn en Harlin moest meer "gore" toegevoegen zoals draaiende hoofden en een flinke lading kots...
There ya go, some good ol' puke is always a crowdpleaser!

First The Punisher Review and new Trailer!!!:
AICN heeft The Punisher gezien en
was erg onder de indruk! Hieronder een fragment van de recensie:
"THE PUNISHER has more in common with the work of Don Seigel and John Frankenheimer than it does with the work of Michael Bay or Simon West. To Hensleigh's credit, what he's done here is make a character-driven revenge drama that resolutely refuses to fit into the easy current definition of the "comic-book" movie. This isn't like any of the other recent Marvel movies, so before you start screaming at me about BLADE 2 or DAREDEVIL or HULK, save yourself the hassle. This is nothing like those films, whatever you think of them."
Thomas Jane speelt de rol van de verbitterde comicbook character, John Travolta is de bad guy in de film.
Jonathan Hensleigh, schrijver van Armageddon, maakt zijn regiedebuut met The Punisher. Ik
ben zeer benieuwd hoe de film is.
En dit kwam net binnen, de trailer is nu online!

Upcoming Favreau, McG and Malick projects:
Jon Favreau gaat misschien Zathura regisseren, het vervolg op
Jumanji. De studio is al enkele jaren bezig met het project maar kon de juiste regisseur niet vinden en het
script was ook niet naar wens. Schrijver David Koepp is er nu in geslaagd om een final draft te schrijven,
nu maar kijken of Favreau in staat is het script te verfilmen.
Charlie's Angels regisseur McG is van plan om het leven van stuntman Evel Knievel te
verfilmen. Screenwriter Andrew Walker (Seven) schrijft het script Pure Evel. "Knievel," McG said, "was one of the characters he fantasized about in his "Walter Mitty childhood."
De film zal een gedeelte van zijn leven volgen met als finale de "rocket jump" over Snake River Canyon dat
niet zo goed afliep. Laten we maar eerst kijken of McG nog de Superman film gaat regisseren.
Terence Malick (The Thin Red Line) gaat de biografie Che regisseren,
het verhaal over de beruchte Cubaanse revolutionair. Benicio Del Toro zal de hoofdrol vertolken.

"The footage began with Lance Henriksen's industrial billionaire instructing his team of scientists and archaeologists as they make ready to enter the uncovered Aztec dig site deep within the Antarctic circle. Ewan Bremner reveals himself as the token comic relief before we see a montage of panning shots of the temple, with nervous scientists exploring the ruins. The team discover a series of bodies with ruptured ribcages and are, in true shock-jump fashion, surprised by the desiccated body of a facehugger. And that's when things get interesting."
