Casting update:
Wow, een lekker weekje met veel nieuws, de volgende update is in het weekend. Eerst nog even een casting update, veel plezier!:
 Jessica Biel acteert naast Nicolas Cage en Julianne Moore in Lee Tamahori's sci-fi flick Next. De film is gebaseerd op een kort verhaal van science fiction schrijver Philip K. Dick. Cage speelt een man die niet alleen in de toekomst kan kijken maar ook nog een bepaalde situatie op tijd een andere wending kan geven.
Anne Hathaway (Brokeback Mountain) gaat spelen in de komedie Knocked Up. De 40-Year-Old Virgin's Judd Apatow regisseert.
Mark Wahlberg vertolkt de hoofdrol in Antoine Fuqua's politieke thriller Shooter.

Baz Luhrmann talks epic film:
Vorige week onthulde Moulin Rouge regisseur Baz Luhrmann dat hij werkt aan een "epic film, in the tradition of Gone with the Wind" met Russell Crowe en Nicole Kidman in de hoofdrol. Deze week vertelde de regisseur meer over de film (met de werktitel; Project Oklahoma).
"It's not a musical, and it's not Oklahoma! Its classic romance that uses the sweeping landscape of Australia and runs from the mid-1930s to the bombing of Darwin during World War II.
My motivation is not to do it with computer-generated images. It's to go the Lawrence of Arabia road and take two of the world's most extraordinary actors - more than two - to some of the most extraordinary scenic landscape in the world. We're going to do what David Lean did. He shot in Wadi Rum in Jordan. We'll be shooting in the Kimberleys.
We've talked about it for over seven years, that we must do something together in Australia. We're in the extraordinary place now where we can do that. Because you've got two Oscar-winning actors, you can actually make a film at a scale that you could never do for an Australian film before."

Oliver Stone talks World Trade Centre:
Oliver Stone brengt binnenkort de eerste film over de 9/11 ramp. Nicolas Cage speelt in World Trade Centre de rol van een Port Authority policeman, die een dag lang onder het puin van de verwoeste twin towers heeft gelegen.
"Is America ready for 9/11? Is America ready for gay sex? I don't know," vertelde de regisseur, "It's a very simple, austere film in many ways, a technical attempt to be realistic about what happened in that building, to really show it as it is, feel it as it is.
It's truly a 24-hour document of these men's story. They survived under extraordinary circumstances. It's about their rescue, and their families at home, basically; their lives and relationships. I was curious about how mentally they made it, under those conditions.

Newsflash:
Darkness Falls regisseur Jonathan Liebesman is door producer Michael Bay gekozen om de nieuwe Friday the 13th film te maken. The horrorfilm gaat terug naar de roots van Jason Voorhees.
Chris Rock gaat de hoofdrol spelen in de komedie I Think I Love My Wife. De film wordt een remake van de Franse film Chloe in the Afternoon en vertelt het verhaal van een getrouwde man die alleen maar over andere vrouwen dagdroomt.
David Strathairn, ster van Good Night, And Good Luck, vergezelt Matthew McConaughey en Matthew Fox in McG's American football drama We Are Marshall. De film is gebaseerd op een waargebeurd verhaal over een vliegtuigcrash waarbij spelers van het West Virginia football team om het leven kwamen.
Ving Rhames is in, and Will Toale is out?! Inderdaad, de ster van de Aquaman TV serie wordt vervangen door Justin Hartley. Gisteren werd bekend gemaakt dat Rhames de mentor van de superheld gaat spelen.

Die, Bond, die!!!:
Grappig... of eigenlijk ook weer niet, een groep extreme Bond fans heeft een website gelanceerd met een oproep om Casino Royale te boycotten. De fans zijn niet tevreden
met de acteur Daniel Craig als agent 007. "EON Productions angered fans around the world when they fired Pierce Brosnan at the height of his popularity as Bond," vermeldt de website. "To add insult to injury, EON cast a short, blond, odd-looking Daniel Craig in the role of Bond."

Joss Whedon talks Wonder Woman:
Joss Whedon sprak weer eens over Wonder Woman! De writer-director gaf een update, check this out:
I am finishing the script now, I am a few weeks away from a draft, they'll take a look at that and they'll either say this is absolutely perfect for Paul Sorvino or they'll say this sucks and hire somebody else, it's impossible to say but I think in a few weeks time they should get a sense of what I am doing in the movie and then we can start talking about casting.
It's a coming of age story but it's a coming of age story for somebody who's not necessarily an adolescent. She's never been off this island that she lives on so she literally could be between 15 and 30, we find the actress who is right for that…we hire her, it doesn't matter how old she is.
The villains are of my own creation. I don't think Wonder Woman has the greatest rogues gallery in the world so I created someone of my own for her to come up against. It has to do with Greek mythology and the roots that the original comic was built on.

Indy and JP IV update!:
Steven Spielberg sprak eindelijk zelf over de nieuwe Indiana Jones film! Indy IV zal dit jaar in productie gaan met een release date ergens in 2007. "I haven’t given up making entertaining films," vertelde Spielberg, "But over the last decade I have been making some films that express the respect I have for history. I am about to make Indiana Jones 4, which is, as far as I am concerned, the sweet dessert I give those who had to chow down on the bitter herbs that I’ve used in Munich."
En Spielberg's producing partner Frank Marshall vertelde dat ze eindelijk een Jurassic Park IV script hebben, waar ze zeer tevreden over zijn; "It has a good script now, so we should have that one up and running next year for release in 2008."

Kojak en M:I:III ster Ving Rhames is binnenkort te zien in de nieuwe Aquaman TV serie. Ving zal de rol van Aquaman's mentor vertolken. Source: Variety
Walk The Line regisseur James Mangold heeft bekend gemaakt dat hij een remake gaat maken van de western 3:10 To Yuma. De film uit 1957 met Glenn Ford in de hoofdrol, vertelt het verhaal van een sheriff dat alles op alles zet om een desperado te arresteren. "There are a lot of good-bad themes that were only touched on in the original," vertelde Mangold. "A lot of westerns are meditative, but this is a total struggle culminating in a showdown, which has the potential to be one of the great movie gunfights." Source: Variety

U.S. Box Office Feb 17-20:
Paul Walker en zijn hondjes wonnen de gouden plak afgelopen Presidents' Day weekend! De avonturenfilm met de titel Eight Below deed het met 25 miljoen veel beter dan verwacht.
De favoriet, Date Movie, belandde hierdoor op een tweede plaats gevolgd door The Pink Panther.

Casino Royale casting update:
Franse schoonheid Eva Green is gekozen voor de rol van de nieuwe Bond Girl in Casino Royale! Green maakte haar debuut in Bertolucci's The Dreamers.
"After an extensive search we have found the perfect actress," vertelde producers Michael G. Wilson en Barbara Broccoli. "Eva is one of France's most accomplished young actresses, now receiving international acclaim. She brings to the complex role of Vesper an exciting combination of enigmatic and seductive beauty."
En de nieuwe CIA agent Felix Leiter wordt gespeeld door Jeffrey Wright. De acteur is o.a. te zien in Syriana en had een geweldige bijrol naast Bill Murray in Broken Flowers.

Ratner strikes back:
Brett Ratner wordt van alle kanten aangevallen door de fans die niet echt enthousiast zijn over de nieuwe X-Men: The Last Stand foto's.
Maar de regisseur slaat terug en vertelde dat de X-Men film trouw blijft aan de oudere comics en het absoluut een andere look zal hebben dan de beruchte foto's.
"Those photos were taken before I even started shooting," verklaarde Ratner, "They were done in the testing process, so those photos are very, very old. I think whenever you're on the Internet and you have nothing to do and you're a fan, you become very anxious to get the information, but you have to consider the source. If it's sent out by the studio, then you know it's official, but if it's put up on the Internet by someone who stole something illegally, then I think you should first consider what you're looking at."
X-Men: The Last Stand is volgens Brett ook de laatste X-Men film: "Well, it seems to be the last of the series. We wanted to make sure the audiences knew that this was a trilogy. Even though they weren't made together like 'Lord of the Rings,' this is really closure for the X-Men series. This is the last stand for sure."
Ik heb Ratner vanaf het begin gesteund en begrijp eigenlijk niets van dat gedoe over die foto's. Ik ben ervan overtuigd dat Brett een kick-ass film zal leveren.
