Goyer talks Blade III!:
Writer-producer-director David Goyer sprak met HNR over zijn
de derde film van the Daywalker, beter bekend als Blade!:
How did the script turn out?
As expected, there's a lot of action. "We had a lot of big stunts, more than the other films. We blew things up, smashed a lot of cars. We blew up, smashed and shattered $170,000 [US] in glass alone.
"The big surprise for me was that it turned out quite funny, it has quite a bit of comedy. That's why I decided to cast a lot of people that had improvisational backgrounds or comedic backgrounds."
Will there be a "Blade 4?"
"Wesley told me when we did the second one that he thought he only had one more in him but you never know. We'll see. I always conceived of three films and there is a definite ending to this. I don't want to cheat (by opening it up again). On the other hand if it does $150 million, then . . . we're all whores."

"I'll tell you when you'll see the buzz - when we announce the movie, when we announce the director, and it will all of a sudden be an announcement that Jennifer Garner is teaming up with so-and-so to start the movie Elektra, and your site will get the buzz. It will happen. There's speculation about Hulk 2, but Hulk is a very different situation. Some of us are very, very proud of the movie. In retrospect - totally, blatantly honest - we shouldn't have gotten that deep. It was hard… There were a lot of moments that were hard to watch. But that's what it was about. It's about getting to the inner soul, to understand anger, and it's hard. Listen - some of the critics loved it. We got reviews in some countries that usually kill our kind of movies. Kill it. Like in France, for example, that was a revered movie there. When you go with an Ang Lee, you're going to go to the depths of the soul. Now, some people didn't want that depth. They wanted Rick Jones and a motorcycle across the thing, and basically follow up the television show - that probably had more awareness", says Arad.
IGN also asked about the current status of "The Fantastic Four" movie.
"Well, funny that you ask - sitting here right in front of me is the latest draft, and we're going to make this movie, and it's going to be great. And everything that you ever wanted to see in The Fantastic Four - which is the family dynamics, vis a vis Victor - it's all here. You wanted to see Alicia and Ben? Why does that make sense? It's here. Every hot button that the fans - someone like you - will want to see in this movie, is in there. You want the ancestry? It's there."
"The tone? Big action movie. A big action movie dealing with these characters. They come out of this tragedy, as you know - these superpowers are public, unlike the X-Men who can hide. And it's not easy. It's not easy for a person to get these supposed-to-be-superpowers, but they are not. It's not only for Ben. Obviously Ben is the monster in the group and the most sensitive, but everybody else - if a woman like Sue materializes, what does it do to everything else inside her? I don't want to go too deep and give too much away, but what I'm saying to you is we're dealing with the vulnerability on one hand, and then the fun in it.
Arad says Dr Doom will still be the villain, and that Sean Astin is a consideration for Directing duties, but that it's an open call.

Amazing Batman update!!!:
Variety heeft een
geweldig artikel geplaatst over Chris Nolan's Batman film!!! Hij sprak over de toon en stijl,
de Bat suit zonder tepels, een nieuwe Batmobile en het gebruik maken van New York, London en Ijsland om een
modern Gotham te creëren. Nolan en schrijver David Goyer vertellen het volgende:
This time around, it's about the genesis of Batman: How billionaire Bruce Wayne makes a series of decisions that turn him into the Caped Crusader. Batman will be more realistic and less cartoonish. There are no campy villains. Wayne -- younger, more vulnerable, more human -- will be getting as much attention as his masked alter-ego.
"I felt like doing the origins story of the character, which is a story that's never been told before," says Chris Nolan ("Insomnia," "Memento"), who takes the reins of "Batman" from Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher.
"The world of Batman is that of grounded reality," he says. Burton's and Schumacher's visions were idiosyncratic and unreal. Nolan says, "Ours will be a recognizable, contemporary reality against which an extraordinary heroic figure arises."
"If we're successful, the thing that will be talked about a lot and on what we worked on the hardest is that the audience will really care about Bruce Wayne and not just Batman," Goyer says. It doesn't matter how much you spend on special effects -- if it feels hollow, no one gives a damn."

Star Wars DVD release date!:
It's official, Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi zullen in één gigantische DVD box
in September 2004 worden uitgebracht! De box bevat een extra disc met special features, never-before-seen footage
en een nieuwe documentaire. De films zijn de "special editons" en niet de originele versies.
"We are currently in the process of restoring and remastering all three titles for the DVD release, so we're
still working on details of the marketing strategy," volgens Jim Ward, Lucasfilm's Vice President of Marketing
and Distribution.

Peter en Bobby Farrelly (Dumb en Dumber) willen Russell Crowe in hun Three Stooges film: "We would like to get Russell Crowe for Moe," said Peter. "He is the perfect Moe. Drew Struzan, de kunstenaar die de posters van Indiana Jones en Star Wars creëerde, heeft ook de poster van
Guillermo Del Toro's Hellboy ontworpen en het ziet er wonderschoon uit! De film is gebaseerd
op een comic over een losgebroken demon die vecht tegen de duistere krachten. Ron Perlman speelt de hoofdrol

Jackson talks Return of the King Extended Version!:
Peter Jackson sprak met Entertainment Weekly over wat we kunnen verwachten van de extended Return of the King version!:
"We have an hour of footage we shot for "Return of the King" that we didn't put in the movie. I'm going to work on an extended DVD version, though I don't think all of that will make it in because the pacing would be really weird. But there's some good stuff that's not in the book. We did a funny scene between Gimli and Legolas having a drinking competition which I really quite liked, but we felt [it was too comedic] at a point when we wanted to set up the tension of the story. And there's a sequence of Sam and Frodo disguised as orcs where they end up in the orc army for a while."
Legolas, Gimli in een zuipwedstrijd? Dit moet ik zien!

Caviezel talks The Passion of Christ:
Jim Caviezel, binnenkort te zien in de rol van Jezus, sprak met Newsweek over Mel Gibson's controversiële film The Passion of Christ:
The actor, who describes working with Gibson as "a little like waltzing in a hurricane," says the director told him he rediscovered the Gospels after going through a rough stretch in his life. "He began meditating on the passion and death of Jesus. In doing so, he said the wounds of Christ healed his wounds. And I think the film expresses that."

Science Fiction remake:
Wow, wie had ooit gedacht dat de film Science Fiction (je weet wel, Wendy van Dijks filmdebuut)
een impact zou maken in het buitenland. De film is gigantisch geflopt maar Columbia Pictures heeft toch de
rechten gekocht voor een remake! De film vertelt het verhaal van een jongen die zijn vrienden vertelt dat zijn
ouders aliens zijn. Lauren Shuler Donner gaat de familiefilm produceren.

US Box Office Feb 06-08:
Barbershop 2 heeft het prima gedaan afgelopen US Box Office weekend. De komedie met Ice Cube bracht
maar liefst $25 miljoen op! De ice hockey film Miracle met Kurt Russell kwam op de tweede

Star Wars Episode III update:

sprak met co-editor Roger Barton die een tipje van de Jawa-sluier lichtte over Episode III. Here's a clip:
Once Barton returned to Skywalker Ranch after principal photography wrapped on the set in Sydney, he began to work closely with Lucas and Ben Burtt. During production in Sydney, Burtt worked with the Animatics Department to deliver early iterations of some of the most action-packed scenes, while Barton was busily assembling live action footage shot on set.
"While Ben and George are knocking out the first 20 minutes of the movie that opens in a huge space battle, I'm working on the body of the movie and knocking out some Yoda sequences so that [Animation Supervisor] Rob Coleman can start his animation."
De film opent met een "huge space battle.."? Man, I can't wait!!! Roger Barton vertelde ook dat het derde deel
een stuk donkerder zal zijn dan de andere films.

Alien vs Predator set visit op de site geplaatst! FX artist en supervisor van de visual effects John Bruno
vertelde iets meer over the clash of the titans:
So what can we look forward to in terms of the way effects are approached in this film?
Well, the approach on this film or historically my approach to visual effects has been every tool in the toolbox works. It's not just computers; computers are there when you can't do it any other way. So we use a lot of models and miniatures. For CG, it has to be something a little more special. So there's giant miniature sets, giant miniature creatures - smaller then the full size creatures. From "Alien," we're taking the best of the first and second movies. And from "Predator," we're using the first movie as a guide.
How many effects are in the film?
Well, 30 pages of the script are visual effects. I've never worked on a film like that - I don't even think "Titanic" had that in terms of percentage of the pages of the script. This is visual effects all the time. I don't think there's a sequence that doesn't have something.
What has been your biggest challenge on the film?
Well, coming up with the Predator cloaking... We're doing some spectacular things in this film. We're not just having the Predator stopping, then the dissolve comes. We have him leaping a 25-foot gap in the Chamber of Gods and while in mid-air he disappears, but the camera still follows him. It's very complex motion control - repeatable passes. It takes a long time and there's a lot of pressure. But it's going to look fantastic. We've already got some rough cuts together and it looks really good. Getting to see every aspect and every minute detail of how a face-hugger leaps - we shot it at 300 frames a second. It's all CG - the face hugger leaps across the room. So there's a scene where they'll all be flying and you'll get to study them a bit - like flying squirrels, they're lining up their targets. I already saw the rough cuts on that and we've got some pre-visualizations that look really good.

Sigourney Weaver sprak over haar rol in M. Night Shyamalan's nieuwste film The Village!:
"I play Alice Hunt who's a widow - she's one of a group called The Elders of the village. It's a kind of a communal village and there's a group of people who run things very democratically. I'm Joaquin Phoenix's mother and he plays a very extraordinary, shy young man who's also very brave. It's a fabulous story on a lot of levels - not just scary but very interesting. I had nightmares for two weeks just reading it - so I think it's going to be very scary!"

Man-Thing Preview:
Een bron was getuige van een sneak preview van Man-Thing. De horror film is gebaseerd op een
Marvel comic over een moeras monster. De film is gemaakt door Brett Leonard (The Lawnmower Man):
"Saw a rough cut of Man Thing the other week, and although it was not finished, it is pretty dam impressive. It looks like a 100 million dollar movie. Brett Leonard has created a fun, fast paced scary movie, full of suspense and stunning visuals. The Man Thing creature and special make-up effects, created by Make-up Effects Group, look awesome. As does the cinematography and visual effects. The cast give strong performances, and the movie will deliver ... Beware Swamp Thing ..."
Yep, weet bijna zeker dat de film geweldig wordt!
