Time for another remake... Horror classic The Omen (1976) is being revisited by director John Moore. The original version was Richard Donner's breakthrough film, followed by his other giant blockbusters Superman The Movie and Lethal Weapon series. John Moore delivered the less successful films Behind Enemy Lines and Flight of the Phoenix. The cast of The Omen 2006 includes Liev Schreiber, Julia Stiles, David Thewlis and Mia Farrow. Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick makes his big screen debut as Damien, the young version of the Antichrist himself.
John Moore's The Omen isn't that different than Donner's original version. The parents of Damien are a bit younger and recent disasters and incidents are cleverly added to the new script.
Schreiber and Stiles deliver okay emotional performances as the loving parents who are having doubts about their relation with their son. Mia Farrow is perfect as the creepy nanny from hell, Mrs. Baylock. Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick as Damien is less impressive than the other cast members. He doesn't have the terrifying charisma of a boy with devilish powers who wants to destroy humanity.
Director John Moore delivers a stylish yet very mediocre thriller. The remake's selling points are just a few cool scares, the rest of the film doesn't bring anything new to the story.
