Movie: The Da Vinci Code
Director: Ron Howard
Actors: Tom Hanks, Audrey Tautou, Ian McKellen, Alfred Molina, Paul Bettany, Jean Reno

First of all, I want to make an announcement; I haven't read the book and I'm probably the only one on this planet! So I can't compare the film to Dan Brown's bestseller, but will give you my opinion of The Da Vinci Code movie.
The one and only Ron "Richie Cunningham" Howard accepted the challenge to make a film adaptation of the legendary novel. The leading role went to Tom Hanks, who also worked with Howard on Splash and Apollo 13. The rest of the cast includes Ian McKellen, Jean Reno and the beautiful Audrey "Amelie" Tautou.

The story in a nutshell:
A dead body has been found at The Louvre. Professor Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) is searching for clues and discovers a hidden code in Da Vinci's paintings. The greatest mystery of all time, which could shake the foundations of Christianity, is about to be uncovered.

Tom Hanks' performance in The Da Vinci Code is surprisingly calm. He could have turned it up a notch to make his character more passionate. But on the other hand, his presence doesn't overshadow the nice supporting roles of McKellen, Tautou and Reno, who finally plays a serious character again. McKellen is wonderful as the Holy Grail expert Teabing and Audrey Tautou, with her lovely dark brown eyes, is great as Langdon's mystery hunter.
Ron Howard keeps the film fast-paced with plenty of mysteries for you to solve. In between unraveling the mysteries, you also get a very quick lesson of the history of Christianity that probably has been altered to fit the novel... or in this case, the movie. Unfortunately, Ron Howard doesn't deliver a really controversial movie. I also expected that Howard would unleash more adventure and excitement but also on this level, the director holds back.
The movie could have been more suspenseful, but thanks to the fascinating subject, The Da Vinci Code is an entertaining adventure flick with an interesting climax. Maybe it's time for me to join the rest of the world and read the book.

Okay Code Cracker flick!
