Movie: Mission: Impossible III
Director: J.J. Abrams
Actors: Tom Cruise, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Michelle Monaghan, Ving Rhames, Keri Russell, Maggie Q, Jonathan Rhys Meyers

Director Brian De Palma delivered an exiting Mission: Impossible flick. M:i:II was directed by Hong Kong action-meister John Woo, who injected his recognizable style into the film; slick action, lots of slo-mo shots and an ultra-cool Tom Cruise. I really liked this movie with the over-the-top action and visually stunning scenes, but that's because I'm one of the biggest John Woo fans. So now it's time for J.J. Abrams who makes his big screen debut with Mission: Impossible III. The writer-director gained a lot of success with the outstanding TV series Alias and Lost. Will Abrams make a better film than the previous flicks, or will it become an impossible mission? First the plot outline:

The story in a nutshell:
Secret Agent Ethan Hunt (Cruise) is being confronted with a sadistic arms dealer Owen Davian (Philip Seymour Hoffman). Owen finds the weak spot of his opponent and strikes back without remorse. He uses Hunt's girlfriend Julia (Michelle Monaghan) as bate. The desperate agent must now rely on the help of his team members Luther (Ving Rhames), Lindsey (Keri Russell), Zhen (Maggie Q) and Declan (Jonathan Rhys Meyers).

J.J. Abrams' mission; make M:i:III dark, gritty and realistic. Target: make sure the action is fueled by an emotional purpose, resulting in multi-layered characters instead of being two-dimensional. Result: a mind blowing, finger-licking good action-spectacle!
Yep, Abrams did it! M:i:III sucks you right in from the moment the theater lights go out. A flash forward, in which Davian, insanely well played by Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman, holds a gun to Julia's lovely head. Ethan, tied up to a chair, sits across her. Davian pulls the trigger, shot is being fired... and we jump back in time to the beginning of the story that leads up to this incident.
Mega star Tom Cruise simply did it again. Once again his performance, providing a different kind of agent, is very impressive. This agent loses control and even shows his emotions. Cruise also does a great job physically, doing a big chunk of the stunts himself.
J.J. Abrams gives a very interesting twist to the franchise. The style and content of the film is completely different than the previous films but M:i:III is also a traditional spy flick in the style of the Mission: Impossible TV series. I also have to mention the amazing old school film score by Michael Giacchino, which gives the flick a perfect edge. M:i:III is the beginning of a promising blockbuster-season, I realize after seeing this movie that it has been a long time that I've really enjoyed a film, hopefully more will follow this summer.

Mission Accomplished!
