Movie: Miami Vice
Director: Michael Mann
Actors: Colin Farrell, Jamie Foxx, Gong Li, Naomie Harris, Justin Theroux, Luis Tosar, Barry Shabaka Henley, Elizabeth Rodriguez

Miami Vice; fast cars, hot babes, pastel colors, lots of guns, all set in exotic Miami. The groundbreaking series was known for its slick style and contained the latest smash hits of the day.
Michael Mann, the man behind the series, has established himself as one of the best directors in Hollywood. Last of the Mohicans, The Insider, Ali, Collateral and the masterpiece, Heat, I love his films! With all these remakes and TV series adaptations, Michael Mann also goes back to his roots to make a big screen version of Miami Vice.

Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx are Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs. Two tough Miami PD cops who go deep, very deep undercover to infiltrate in the dangerous world of drug trafficking.
That's basically the story of the flick. Farrell and Foxx are perfectly cast as the ultra-cool undercover cops. They have the attitude and necessary chemistry. The relatively unknown actor Luis Tosar is, with his bizarre looks, excellent as the powerful gang leader Jesus Montoya. Farewell my Concubine's Gong Li, is great as Montoya's partner. It's cool to see her in a role like this. I did miss Edward James Olmos as Castillo but Barry Shabaka Henley does a nice job too.

Is the movie just like the TV show? Nope, thank God! And that is probably the main reason why most of the viewers had problems with the film. The film doesn't live up to their expectations, Mann just made a film that isn't connected to the series. Just see Miami Vice as a gritty and powerful cop thriller, see it as another excellent Michael Mann film. The director keeps Miami Vice simple, rough and, thanks to the remarkable cinematography, very realistic.

Miami Vice sans Jan Hammer, but it still rocks!
