Will Smith stars in the romantic comedy Hitch as the "Date Doctor" Alex Hitchens, a consultant who helps men ask the love of their life out on a date. The clumsy Albert (Kevin James) is one of his clients. It looks like a mission: impossible but Hitch succeeds to transform Albert into a Don Juan and give him enough confidence to date the beautiful and rich Allegra (Amber Valetta). Hitch is the best but somehow he doesn't know how to use his skills for private matters.
Will Smith is funny and charming as the Date Doc and a bit different than his recent cop-with-slick-one-liners roles. The scenes with Smith and Kevin James are hilarious but it's too bad we've seen most of them during the trailers. The first half of the comedy is entertaining with some pretty funny jokes, but after that the film loses its power. Director Andy Tennant (Sweet Home Alabama) turns to the manual of how to make a predictable romantic comedy. Hitch turns, during the second half, into a bittersweet drama about a man who must convince is beloved of his feelings. The ending is just too long-winded, drenched with extra pink-colored sugar, warm caramel, hart-shaped chocolate and topped with whipped cream.
Overall, Hitch is an okay but predictable feel-good movie, just good enough to go to with your own date.
