Can you cheat death? Once again, this question will be handled in the third installment of the successful Final Destination series. Part one started off with a plane crash, the second chapter had an impressive opening with gory car crashes and in part three a group of teenagers are being killed in a rollercoaster crash… Well, that's the plan but Wendy (Mary Elizabeth Winsted) reacts to her vision she has just before the actual crash, and saves her friends just in time. Wendy soon finds out that it's not over, cause Mr. Death is still after the souls of the kids. Wendy and her friend Kevin (Ryan Merriman) discover a glitch in the system. A race against time begins to warn the survivors and cheat death one more time.
James Wong, writer and director of the first Final Destination film, also decided to direct the third part (part two was helmed by Cellular's David R. Ellis). Wong unfortunately offers no new elements to the story. Final Destination 3 opens nice with a cool rollercoaster crash but is less impressive than the previous films. After the crash, the film follows the exact same road as the predecessors. The writers managed to squeeze a tiny plot twist into the sloppy story, which mostly revolves around the bizarre accidents. One of the accidents centers on two girls getting fried while getting a tan, and a guy who… well, I won't spoil it, just be prepared to witness lots of blood and decapitated body parts.
Final Destination 3 lacks the originality and suspense of the first film and focuses only on the gore-element… and that's what we came to see, right?! So don't expect too much, just sit back and enjoy the ride.
