movieXplosion.com's Film Top Ten 2005:
As I ran through the list of the 2005 film releases, I've noticed that I've missed quite a few films, especially the indie and arthouse flicks. It's been a busy year so I had to make a choice and went for the bigger Hollywood productions instead. Now, most of you know I'm easily pleased, cool special effects, big explosions or superheroes jumping around in spandex, that'll satisfy my needs. But I must say, most of the blockbusters didn't disappoint. I think it was a fun year with a lot of great films. The big movie sites posted their 2005 Top Ten and I thought it would be cool to do the same.
2005 has been an incredible year, a lot of hard work and I'm getting closer and closer in making my dream come true as a concept designer in the movie industry.
MovieXplosion.com also became bigger than I expected. You know, I'm just a simple dude from Holland who dearly loves movies and you, the film friends from around the globe, are a big part of my website's success!!!
I'm working on a new look for movieXplosion.com, adding some new sections but the essence of the website will not be changed; keep the website banner friendly, offering the latest cool movie news and of course my straight to the point spoilerfree reviews, all from a film fan's point of view, my point of view!
Once again, thanks for your support! Here's Reggy's 2005 Movie Top Ten!
10. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
I don't know exactly why, but this movie touched me. Aslan the Lion is very well done and the climactic battle is amazing.
9. Kung Fu Hustle
I love Stephen Chow. He created a whole new groundbreaking genre and managed to combine martial arts, hardcore action, comedy and stunning special effects.
8. Million Dollar Baby
One of the best boxing flicks ever. I love the chemistry between Eastwood and Freeman.
7. War of the Worlds
This movie grabbed me the second time I've watched it. This is just one intense and claustrophobic experience. The sequence of Ray (Cruise) deciding to kill Harlan Ogilvy (Tim Robbins) is one of the best moments of the flick. Spielberg at his best.
6. Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
What can I say, I've been waiting for this movie since I was a kid and it simply delivered. Darth Vader rules!
5. The 40 Year Old Virgin
This is absolutely the best comedy of the year, period! Steve Carell is hilarious and I hope he will be very successful in the future.
4. A History of Violence
Great piece by David Cronenberg. The film is brutal, character driven and sometimes hard to look at. Ed Harris is chilling as the film's villain.
3. Sin City
Frank Miller my idol, the one who taught me how the draw. Robert Rodriguez brought his comic to life, visually stunning and a cast who looks exactly like Miller's characters.
2. Batman Begins
The best superhero movie ever, well after Superman the Movie… Chris Nolan, David Goyer and Christian Bale nailed it and delivered a very dark and gritty Batman.
1. King Kong
Peter Jackson did it again, the best film of the year. Just like Spielberg's War of the Worlds, this movie became better after a second viewing. This is one tough 3 hour ride that I want to do over and over again.
