Movie: Casino Royale
Director: Martin Campbell
Actors: Daniel Craig, Eva Green, Mads Mikkelsen, Judi Dench, Jeffrey Wright, Giancarlo Giannini, Caterina Murino

Casino Royale revolves around the early years of James Bond. How did he become a '00' agent, what makes him the ruthless killing machine and why does he like his Martini shaken not stirred. A re-introduction also comes with a new face. Daniel Craig, known for his small but impressive supporting roles in Road to Perdition and Munich, plays the part of the British spy. A very surprising choice because the man doesn't have the looks of James Bond. His first mission centers on taking down Le Chiffre, a banker who funds terrorist organizations. Bond will try to give him a financial blow by winning his fortune during a high-stakes poker game.

Casino Royale is directed by Martin Campbell who also introduced Pierce Brosnan in his first Bond flick, Goldeneye. From the moment the MGM logo appears, it becomes very clear that Campbell is going for a back to basics approach. Casino Royale is gritty, hard as nails and leaves out the high-tec gadgets, which makes the film a lot more realistic. Casting Daniel Craig in the lead, gives the franchise the perfect opportunity to move into a new direction. He doesn't have the looks of Brosnan or Moore but he does have the powerful appearance and physique of a fearless fighting machine. Martin Campbell goes into high gear during the first half of the film. The amazing chase scene at a construction site gives an awesome adrenaline-rush, followed by a couple of other gritty action and fight sequences. But Campbell unfortunately loses control of the Bond vehicle. The last part, that goes on a bit too long, brings the film totally out of balance, that diminishes the explosive first half of the movie. That really, really, really sucks, because the film started out very promising! But... looking at the big picture, Casino Royale marks a great start of fresh, new adventures of James Bond. Daniel Craig did convince me as the new 007, James Bond is back... with a bang!

Daniel Craig is fantastic!
