Movie: Cars
Director: John Lasseter and Joe Ranft
Actors: Owen Wilson, Paul Newman, Bonnie Hunt, Larry The Cable Guy, Cheech Marin, Tony Shalhoub, John Ratzenberger, Michael Keaton

John Lasseter opened my eyes when he delivered one of the first computer animated films; Toy Story. He also directed A Bug's Life and Toy Story 2. Besides his directing gigs, he was producer and driving force of other Pixar flicks like Finding Nemo and my favorite The Incredibles. With Cars, Lasseter once again grabs the steering wheel with Joe Ranft in the passenger's seat, serving as co-director.

Cars tells the story of hot-shot stock-car Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) who ends up in a small town where he discovers the true meaning of friendship. The rest of the characters are being voiced by Paul Newman, Bonnie Hunt, Cheech Marin, Tony Shalhoub as the funny Luigi and Larry the Cable Guy who provides the voice of the rusty tow-truck Mater. The great John Ratzenberger (Cliff from Cheers) is also back for a small role. The actor with the goofy voice played small parts in all of Pixar's films and jokes about it during the end credits of Cars.
Lasseter serves up a wonderful computer animated blockbuster. The overwhelming animation is fluid, realistic and stylish but the story is a bit too traditional and not as funny as Finding Nemo and The Incredibles. I also had a hard time to get into the characters and story because the movie stars talking cars only. The characters are limited in their movements because of their shape, which results in a somewhat stiff performance. I prefer to see CGI people, talking animals or even toys. Anyway, Cars offers brilliant animation but it definitely isn't Pixar's best.

great animation but not that great as other Pixar flicks!
