Reggy's Film Top Ten 2009
It was an interesting year. On a personal level, for the first time, I got to see my name on the big screen as art director, and I expanded my network of filmmakers, producers and other international film friends who all share the same passion. Big plans are coming up for the next year, and I hope you all are coming along for the ride!
As always, thank you guys for your support and keeping movieXplosion.com explosive, I couldn't have done it without you.
It's hard to make a Top Ten when the Oscar potential movies are being released at the end of the year in the US and beginning of the next year in Holland. Valkyrie, The Visitor, The Wrestler and Slumdog Millionaire were all flicks, which were released at the beginning of this year in Holland, but officially are from 2008. All great flicks, but I decided to skip these for the 2009 Top Ten list. I based this year's Top Ten list on top entertainment, escapism and most important geek level. They might not be the little cinema gem, but these flicks really got my juices flowing and created a nasty grin because of outstanding visual effects, men in tights and big explosions. Without further ado, here's my Top Ten list of 2009;
1. Avatar
Groundbreaking. Total escapism.
2. Watchmen
Visually stunning. Hardcore superhero.
3. District 9
Surprise hit of the year. Awesomeness.
4. Inglourious Basterds
Tarantino's back. Christoph Waltz rules.
5. Star Trek
Not a Trekkie. I am now.
6. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
I love Michael Bay movies. There, I said it!
7. Red Cliff part I and II
John Woo epic.
8. (500) Days of Summer
Unusual but very original.
9. The Hangover
Fucking funny.
10. Michael Jackson's This Is It
Impressive. Emotional. Made with integrity.
Runners up: Drag Me to Hell, Taking Woodstock, Ip Man and Away We Go.
Fuck ups: 2012, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Terminator Salvation, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and De Storm.
