Newsflash:
Hi guys, a quick newsflash before the end of the week, I'll be back with more inside information in the weekend!;
Ridley Scott will direct the noir drama The Kind One, with Casey Affleck (Gone Baby Gone) attached to star. The story is set in 1930s LA and centers on a man who falls in love with a mobster's girlfriend. Source: Variety
The title for the new X-Files flick is The X-Files: I Want to Believe. "It's a natural title," director Chris Carter said, "It's a story that involves the difficulties in mediating faith and science. 'I Want to Believe.' It really does suggest Mulder's struggle with his faith." Source: AP News
Shana "Scarlett" O'Hara, a character from the upcoming G.I. Joe flick, has been revealed! Click on the pic for a bigger version!

Shyamalan talks Avatar!:
Director M. Night Shyamalan talks to Empire Online about his adaptation of the cartoon Avatar: The Last Airbender! Here's what he said about the story, tone and visual effects;
"The actual plot is in a place where there are four tribes of people. And these people each have people within their tribe that have mastery over one element: water, earth, fire or air. They all live in a balance and harmony and once every generation there is born an individual who can bend - that is manipulate - all four of those elements and thereby keep a balance between all. They are kind of a Buddha figure to some extent.
Buddhist and Hindu philosophies run through the stuff. When I realised that is what it was, it really drew me as the template for putting storytelling on a new level. There is a kind of thread that connects Star Wars and The Matrix - the first one. That same thread is in this story, about a forgotten belief system, or the illusion of the world now.
Obviously [there will be] some breathtaking visual effects. Just imagine if you saw a little girl bending water out of a glass into the air as an extension of her own personal discipline."
The plan is to deliver a trilogy, and with Shyamalan at the helm, this could turn into something pretty interesting. Click on the above link for more!

The Incredible Hulk poster:
The poster for The Incredible Hulk popped up and it sure looks pretty. It reminds me of the classic comics and somehow of Bill Bixby?! The flick isn't a sequel to Ang Lee's Hulk movie (which, in my opinion is a masterpiece), but more of a relaunch of the franchise. Louis Leterrier directs, cast includes Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, Tim Roth, Tim Blake Nelson, Ty Burrell and William Hurt. Click on the pic for a bigger version.

Ghost in the Shell 3-D!!!:
Ghost in the Shell is one of my favorite anime flicks, right after Akira, and now DreamWorks Pictures has acquired the rights to turn it into a 3-D live-action feature! Ex-Marvel Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Steven Paul are attached to produce. "Ghost in the Shell is one of my favorite stories," DreamWorks' co-owner Steven Spielberg said, "It's a genre that has arrived, and we enthusiastically welcome it to DreamWorks."
Ghost in the Shell tells the story of a special cyborg unit who fights technology-related crime.

Chan and Tucker re-team!:
Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan will reunite for another movie but it won't be a Rush Hour sequel!;
"It's like two days ago when Chris Tucker called me," Chan said, "We sat down and decided we want to do another movie. Not a Rush Hour - something new. I said yes, and after I shook Tucker's hand, I said look, we need a middleman. I don't want to shake hands, then I go back to Hong Kong and you stay here, I get busy and you get busy. You have to have somebody in the middle to follow up, otherwise it will never happen. We've just agreed to do it. we're looking for the writer."
Cool! I'm a big Jackie Chan fan, so I'm always lowering my standards, doesn't matter how bad the movie is, I just love this guy!

Speed Racer featurette!:
Another interesting Speed Racer featurette is now online! The flick marks the first family-friendly movie for the leather-fetish Wachowski Brothers (The Matrix). Stars, a monkey and a producer talk about the production, but no sign of the directors! The footage looks amazing though, click for more!

Guillermo del Toro on The Hobbit!!!:
Though Guillermo del Toro is not officially attached to direct The Hobbit, he did write about it on his blog! The wheels are in motion, and it's looking great, check it out;
"But there has been a lot of movement. And for the last few weeks there has been a lot of creative / cast / crew / visual talks and agreements and we have witnessed great progress in areas that I cannot disclose or that have already leaked from other sources.
I am dying to share news but I have to be patient and wait until the papers are done and my attachment is real. Nevertheless- a LOT of progress in defining the films, their cast and crew. And, may I add, we are all happily in synch about all creative aspects so far and all willing and eager to move forth."
Excellent! The studio plans to tell the Hobbit's story in two flicks, which will be shot back to back. Peter Jackson is still attached as producer.

Newsflash:
No more blood 'n guts for 300 director Zack Snyder. His next feature, well after Watchmen, will be the animated flick Guardians of Ga'Hoole, which is based on the children's books by Kathryn Lasky. The film is set in the Forest of Tyto, where Barn Owls live in peace until their kingdom is threatened by an evil that could destroy their home.
Shia LaBeouf will star in the techno thriller Dark Fields. Neil Burger (The Illusionist) will direct the film, which is based on Alan Glynn's novel. The story centers on a young man who finds the ultimate smart pill.

James Cameron in 3-D!:
James Cameron is busy shooting the sci-fi epic Avatar. The flick will be shot using a super-duper-new 3-D technology, created by alien life forms, I guess. The uber-director, who changed (or is it destroyed) the world with his Terminator flicks also wants to film little drama flicks in 3-D. He talks about it in a very interesting and long interview (which I didn't read) with Variety. Here's a clip;
"I plan to shoot a small dramatic film in 3-D, just to prove this point, after "Avatar." In "Avatar," there are a number of scenes that are straight dramatic scenes, no action, no effects. They play very well, and in fact seem to be enhanced by the stereo viewing experience. So I think this can work for the full length of a dramatic feature. However, filmmakers and studios will have to weigh the added cost of shooting in 3-D against the increased marketing value for that type of film."
Well, I think the new 3-D technology delivers a new movie experience, doesn't matter what kind of flick it is, but it will probably make drama films more intense. Click on the above link for more!
