Movie: Doomsday
Director: Neil Marshall
Actors: Rhona Mitra, Bob Hoskins, Malcolm McDowell

A deadly virus infects the people of Scotland. The government decides to isolate the country with a giant, heavily guarded wall. Nobody enters, and more important, nobody gets out. Years later, the same virus resurfaces in London. Time is running out and a team of specialists, under the command of Major Eden Sinclair, are heading to the lion's den in search for a cure. The team breaks through Scotland's walls and faces a newly developed civilization; blood-thirsty people, hungry for fresh meat!

The lovely Rhona Mitra portrays the Ripley/Sarah Conner-like role of Eden, the tough female who's always in for a good fight. Joining Mitra in her quest for the cure are Bob Hoskins and Malcolm MacDowell, who's taking on the villainous role again. Director Neil Marshall entered the movie-making industry with his sweet little horror flicks Dog Soldiers and The Descent. Doomsday marks his first big budget vehicle; more cash, bigger playground and many buckets of gore! The story, tone and style of the flick feel like a good ol' B movie. But Doomsday becomes a very charming B movie when you keep in mind that the film is Marshall's homage to George Miller's Mad Max and John Carpenter's Escape from New York. Marshall even pushes to story to an awkward medieval setting. But the strange plot twist, and genre combinations, is working in the movie's advantage. Marshall's tribute starts as a been-there-done-that action flick but changes into an exuberant blood fest with explosive action, bizarre car-chases and a hilarious soundtrack!
I caught myself grinning after watching Neil Marshall's old-school action ride. There's a new Mad Max in town, guys.

Sweet fucking blood fest!
