ARCHIVES WEEK 24 2007

14/06/07
Newsflash:
Hi guys, I'm still waiting for my new hard drive to arrive so I can replace the crashed one. So bare with me, hopefully I'm fully operational pretty soon. Alrighty, here's the last newsflash of the week, I'll be back with a new update this weekend;
David Goyer will write and direct a new take on H.G. Wells' classic The Invisible Man. The film is set during WWII and centers on the nephew of the original Invisible Man. Pretty interesting, I bet Goyer will make it dark and gritty. Source: Variety
Sylvain White (Stomp the Yard) replaces Paul W.S. Anderson (Alien vs. Predator) to direct the adaptation of the videogame Castlevania. The story is written by Anderson and revolves around a knight who enters a vampire's gothic castle. Source: Variety
Our own Carice van Houten, star of Paul Verhoeven's Black Book, will play Tom Cruise's wife in the upcoming Valkyrie! The film is directed by Bryan Singer and revolves around a group of German generals who plan to assassinate Hitler. Rest of the cast includes Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy, Patrick Wilson, Stephen Fry and Tom Wilkinson. Great job Carice, wish you all the best! Source: Nu

Newsflash:
Casino Royale's Martin Campbell is attached to direct 36. The film about two detectives who try to solve a series of armored car robberies is a remake of the French 2004 original. Source: The Hollywood Reporter
Alright, we've got Edward Norton as The Hulk, Tim Roth as the villain the Abomination, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross and now we've got the one and only William Hurt as General Ross!!! Very interesting, not so sure about the director though, Transporter's Louis Leterrier. Source: The Hollywood Reporter
Rachel Weisz is set to star in The Lovely Bones. The film about a young girl who is abducted and probably murdered, will be directed by Peter Jackson. Source: Variety
Interesting news bit, Samuel L. Jackson is reteaming with dirtector Renny Harlin to create a sequel for The Long Kiss Goodnight. Here's what Jackson had to say about why making a sequel and which direction they're heading with the story;
"Mitch is one of my favorite characters. I mean, every time I pass 'The Long Kiss Goodnight' on TV, I stop and watch it. If it's on, I stop, I watch it.
Actually, we're thinking, you know, the little girl Samantha's daughter, Caitlin is grown up now and possibly got some skills passed onto her by her mom. Her mom gets killed and we want to find out who did it." So that pretty much means that Geena Davis won't reprise her role as the sexy assassin. Source: MTV

Newsflash:
One Night at McCool's director Harald Zwart is set to helm the new The Pink Panther sequel, Steve Martin is back to play Inspector Jacques Clouseau. The positive thing is that veteran screenwriters Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel will rewrite the script. The duo previously delivered the comedy classics Spies Like Us, Parenthood and City Slickers. Source: The Hollywood Reporter
Bill Murray joins Toby Jones (Infamous) in City of Ember. The film is based on the novel and centers on a dark place where the only light comes from street lamps. As the power source begins to fail, two teenagers search for clues that will unlock ancient mysteries about the city. Monster House's Gil Kenan will direct. Source: Variety
Peter Cullen, original voice of Transformer's Optimus Prime, thanks the fans for getting him cast as the voice of the giant robot in the upcoming film; "The fan base on the Internet helped, and I absolutely owe my gratitude and a lot of affection to you all. I'm grateful that the tenacity and insistence and great lobbying efforts may have helped my situation. ... Look, the bottom line is that a big huge major Hollywood voice in an animated film doesn't always work. It may work in some cases, but it would have been an injustice to not listen to you guys, and the point from longtime fans got across."
Too bad that Frank Welker, who voiced Megatron, is replaced by Hugo "Agent Smith" Weaving. Source: Sci-fi Wire
