The real Snake Plissken speaks!:
300 star Gerard Butler will play Snake Plissken in a remake of John Carpenter's classic Escape from New York. The news was received with mixed emotions, now, the real Snake Plissken, Kurt Russell that is, revealed to EW the he isn't exactly thrilled about the idea either!;
"I will say that when I was told who was going to play Snake Plissken, my initial reaction was "Oh, man!" (Russell winces). I do think that character was quintessentially one thing. And that is, American. People come up to me and say, ''You played Snake Plissken.'' I didn't play Snake Plissken, I created him!"
What if they asked you to do a cameo in the new Escape from New York, or play the Ernest Borgnine role?
"F--- that! I am Snake Plissken! It's like Sean Connery always watching someone else do their version of Bond. I think one of the things, for instance, about Escape From New York that appealed to me was that it wasn't a special effects extravaganza. It's a quiet, dark world and it revolved around watching the behavior of this one guy. He's a fascinating character. In fact, he's the most complex character I've ever played."
Man, I just love Kurt Russell!!! This Escape from New York remake sucks!

Newsflash:
Earlier this week, I've reported about Bryan Singer's new WWII flick, which is based on actual events about a scheme by German generals to assassinate Hitler, the producer of the flick, Mr Tom Cruise, will now also star! The Usual Suspects' Chris McQuarrie wrote the script with Nathan Alexander, production will start this summer. Once again, the untitled WWII flick will not influence the production start date of the Superman sequel, which is planned in 2008!
Emile Hirsch (Alpha Dog) is in talks to star in Speed Racer. The live-action version of the popular animated series will be directed by the Wachowski Bros and marks their first family-friendly feature!
New Line has bought the rights to the video game Gears of War. Stuart Beattie (Collateral) will write the screenplay.

Newsflash:
Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy and Morgan Freeman will star in Wanted. The film is based on the graphic novel about a young man who discovers his father is an assassin. Timur Bekmambetov (Nochnoy dozor a.k.a. Night Watch) will direct. Source: Variety
Gake no ue no Ponyo (Ponyo on a Cliff) will be Hayao Miyazaki's next animated feature. The more traditional and less CG animated film revolves around an oldfish princess named Ponyo who wants to become human. Hayao Miyazaki also directed the animated masterpieces Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away. Source: Variety
Iron Man director Jon Favreau gives an update on the production via his blog; "We are done with the first week of photography. I am happy to report that the ten months of preparation allowed the extremely challenging first week of photography to come off without a hitch. The look is fantastic and the performances are great as well. Downey was definitely the right choice. I'm looking forward to getting out of the "cave." The first few weeks of shooting are spent, somewhat in sequence, establishing Stark's captivity. It sets the table tonally for the rest of the film. The close quarters and tight schedule make it the toughest part of the shoot on the cast and crew." Iron Man stars Robert Downey Jr., Terrence Howard, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jeff Bridges.

Newsflash:
Cate Blanchett will star opposite Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones IV! No details are available on David Koepp's screenplay, even the title is still unknown, though Empire online received a scoop that the fourth movie could be called Indiana Jones And The City Of Gods. Source: Hollywood Reporter
Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, The Descent) will direct a Sherlock Holmes flick! The film will be less Victorian and more adventure. Source: Variety
Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) will remake Joe Dante's 1978 horror classic Piranha. Here's what the director had to say about the little fish with big teeth; "My goal is not to remake 'Piranha' but to create a completely new adventure paying homage to all the 'creatures' films that made me fall in love with the genre. It is the ultimate popcorn movie that pits beer soaked sunburned spring breakers against killer, bloodthirsty animals. I am very proud to follow the path of Joe Dante and James Cameron in the 'Piranha' franchise and look forward to working with Greg Levasseur, to write, produce and direct such a fun and gory thrill ride."
Cool Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer character posters are online! Tim Story directs, cast includes Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis, Julian McMahon and Kerry Washington. Click for more!
