Gatchaman and Astro Boy concept art!:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' Imagi Studios heeft geweldige concept art op de site geplaatst van de CG flicks Gatchaman (a.k.a Strijd der Planeten) en Astro Boy.
TMNT regisseur Kevin Munroe gaat Gatchaman ontwikkelen voor een release in 2008, Astro Boy verschijnt in 2009 in de bios. Klik op de pics voor meer op de site van AICN, want Imagi Studios site is een beetje traag. De volgende update is dit weekend, woohoo!

The real Snake Plissken speaks!:
300 ster Gerard Butler speelt Snake Plissken in een remake van John Carpenter's classic Escape from New York. Het nieuws werd koeltjes ontvangen door de filmfans en zelfs de echte Snake Plissken, Kurt Russell that is, liet aan EW weten dat hij ook niet blij is met het nieuws!;
"I will say that when I was told who was going to play Snake Plissken, my initial reaction was "Oh, man!" (Russell winces). I do think that character was quintessentially one thing. And that is, American. People come up to me and say, ''You played Snake Plissken.'' I didn't play Snake Plissken, I created him!"
What if they asked you to do a cameo in the new Escape from New York, or play the Ernest Borgnine role?
"F--- that! I am Snake Plissken! It's like Sean Connery always watching someone else do their version of Bond. I think one of the things, for instance, about Escape From New York that appealed to me was that it wasn't a special effects extravaganza. It's a quiet, dark world and it revolved around watching the behavior of this one guy. He's a fascinating character. In fact, he's the most complex character I've ever played."
Man, I just love Kurt Russell!!! Ik ben ook geen voorstander van de Escape from New York remake! It sucks!

Newsflash:
 Eerder deze week werd bekend gemaakt dat Bryan Singer's volgende project een WWII film wordt. Vandaag staat in de trades dat de producer van de film, Mr. Tom Cruise, nu ook de hoofdrol gaat vertolken. De film vertelt het waargebeurde verhaal over een plan van Duitse bevelhebbers om Hitler te vermoorden. The Usual Suspects' Chris McQuarrie schreef het script samen met Nathan Alexander, de productie begint deze zomer en zal geen gevolgen hebben voor de planning van de Superman sequel dat volgend jaar wordt opgestart!
Emile Hirsch (Alpha Dog) gaat waarschijnlijk de hoofdrol spelen in Speed Racer. De live-action versie van de populaire animatieserie wordt geregisseerd door de Wachowski Bros!
New Line heeft de rechten gekocht van de videogame Gears of War. Stuart Beattie (Collateral) werkt momenteel aan het script.

Newsflash:
Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy en Morgan Freeman zijn gecast voor Wanted. De film is gebaseerd op het gelijknamige stripboek over een man die ontdekt dat zijn vader een huurmoordenaar is. Timur Bekmambetov (Nochnoy dozor a.k.a. Night Watch) gaat regisseren. Source: Variety
Gake no ue no Ponyo (Ponyo on a Cliff) wordt de nieuwe animatiefilm van de legendarische Hayao Miyazaki. De traditionele tekenfilm vertelt het verhaal van een visprinses, genaamd Ponyo, die mens wil worden. Hayao Miyazaki is ook verantwoordelijk voor de meesterwerkjes Howl's Moving Castle en Spirited Away. Source: Variety
Iron Man regisseur Jon Favreau geeft weer een update van de productie op zijn blog; "We are done with the first week of photography. I am happy to report that the ten months of preparation allowed the extremely challenging first week of photography to come off without a hitch. The look is fantastic and the performances are great as well. Downey was definitely the right choice. I'm looking forward to getting out of the "cave." The first few weeks of shooting are spent, somewhat in sequence, establishing Stark's captivity. It sets the table tonally for the rest of the film. The close quarters and tight schedule make it the toughest part of the shoot on the cast and crew." Iron Man wordt gespeeld door Robert Downey Jr., rest van de cast bestaat uit Terrence Howard, Gwyneth Paltrow en Jeff Bridges.

Gore Verbinski regisseert het derde deel, de piraten worden gespeeld door Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Geoffrey Rush, Chow Yun-Fat, Stellan Skarsgårdm en Jack Davenport. De film draait deze zomer in de bioscoop.

U.S. Box Office March 16-18:
De Spartaanse krijgers in 300 staan met 31 miljoen bucks voor de tweede week op de eerste plaats van de Amerikaanse Box Office. De film, deze week in Nederland te zien, heeft inmiddels 127 miljoen opgebracht. Wild Hogs is still goin' strong met de tweede plaats, gevolgd door Sandra Bullock's Premonition, die ondanks de derde positie, toch 18 miljoen wist binnen te halen.

Newsflash:
Cate Blanchett is naast Harrison Ford te zien in Indiana Jones IV! Er is helaas niets bekend over de inhoud van David Koepp's screenplay, zelfs de titel wordt geheim gehouden maar volgens Empire online wordt het waarschijnlijk Indiana Jones And The City Of Gods. Source: Hollywood Reporter
Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, The Descent) gaat een nieuwe Sherlock Holmes flick regisseren! De film wordt minder Victoriaans en richt zich meer op de actie en avontuur. Source: Variety
Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) gaat een remake regisseren van Joe Dante's 1978 horror classic Piranha. De regisseur vertelde het volgende over de kleine visjes met grote tanden; "My goal is not to remake 'Piranha' but to create a completely new adventure paying homage to all the 'creatures' films that made me fall in love with the genre. It is the ultimate popcorn movie that pits beer soaked sunburned spring breakers against killer, bloodthirsty animals. I am very proud to follow the path of Joe Dante and James Cameron in the 'Piranha' franchise and look forward to working with Greg Levasseur, to write, produce and direct such a fun and gory thrill ride."
