Newsflash:
Hi guys, the last update of the week... but I'll be back this weekend with the next one!
DreamWorks will produce a series of films based on the Belgian comic The Adventures of Tintin.
Jason Lee (My Name Is Earl) will join Alvin, Simon and Theodore in the upcoming Alvin and the Chipmunks flick! The movie will be CGI with live action, and I hope Lee will keep his mouth shut and leave the singing to the rodents. Source: Variety
Transformers' Shia LaBeouf (who also was excellent in Holes), is in final talks to star as Dr. Jones' son in Indy IV! Spielberg and George Lucas are keeping the storyline (written by David Koepp) under tight wraps. Shooting will start in June with a release on May 22, 2008. Source: Variety

It's Happening!:
20th Century Fox will distribute M. Night Shyamalan's new thriller The Happening, previously known as The Green Effect. The film is written and will be directed by Shyamalan and revolves around a family on the run from a natural crisis that presents a large-scale threat to humanity.

Mamma Mia?!!!:
What the f..., James Bond himself will sing ABBA songs in the upcoming musical Mamma Mia! Nope, I'm not talking about Daniel Craig but Pierce Brosnan will be singing along with Meryl Streep. Here's what he had to say; "I said yes right away because it meant working with Meryl Streep. Secondly, I saw the show with my family in London, and found it just so wonderfully happy and joyful, and so pitched in time forever in the 1970s. What a kick in the pants, to be able to go off and spend time with Meryl on some Greek island, singing ABBA songs."
Phyllida Lloyd, who directed Mamma Mia's stage version in London and Broadway, will also direct the film.

Bonaventura talks Beverly Hills Cop IV:
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura talked to Latino Review about the upcoming fourth Bevery Hills Cop vehicle, which marks the comeback of the fast-talking Axel Foley, once again played by Eddie Murphy;
"We're developing a couple of takes right now. We're hoping to make that thing pretty quickly. Eddie Murphy would like to make it his third movie from now. He's already lined up two. He's always been interested in doing it again. That's one of the things that we've been trying to figure out. A guy who is really cocky at age twenty five or whatever, I can't remember, but it's different playing that when you're forty something and try to play cocky. You have to figure out how Axel would evolve over twenty years. So it's an interesting challenge."
Bonaventura also mentioned that Rosewood, played by Judge Reinhold, probably won't be back. Also no word on Taggert (John Ashton), who's one of my favorite characters from the movies, but I'll keep you posted!

Joel Silver talks Speed Racer:
Yesterday, The Matrix producer Joel Silver talked about the status of Wonder Woman, today the action-meister gives an update on Speed Racer! The film is based on the classic 1960s anime TV series and will be directed by the leather-fetish boys, a.k.a. the Wachowski brothers! Here's the fun part, Speed Racers will be the first family film from the directors. Silver explains;
"This is a family picture. But it's going to look like something you've never seen before in your life. I mean, they really want to make a movie for everybody, and they felt that now is the time that they could really do that. They can concentrate on making a film, you know? They have nieces and nephews that couldn't have seen any of their movies, and so they wanted to make one they could see. And they've always loved Speed Racer, and there's a chance to do something really incredible.

Amazing Spider-man 3 clip!:
Looks like this is going to be a Spider-man 3 week, earlier cool concept art appeared online (read newsflash below), I've posted a cool pic in this week's P.O.W. (see above right corner) and today, NBC posted a very cool Spider-man 3 preview. Click on the pic to download the HD clip!
This just came in, I've also got some sad news, Tobey Maguire talked to The Courier Mail and revealed that Spider-man 3 will be the last time he'll play our beloved superhero; "To me it seems like this is a natural point for the team to break up because we have a lot of story conclusions that were going along for the main characters for the first two movies and we kind of tie almost everything up for the third movie. It feels like a trilogy to me and it feels like the end."

Joel Silver talks Wonder Woman!:
Producer Joel Silver talked about the delayed Wonder Woman film; "We're not there yet. I mean, look, ... for a while these Marvel Comics movies have been kicking the DC Comics movies' ass. You know? I mean all these characters that just keep coming out. And, look, they revived Batman. They're making a new Batman now. It should be great. They're making a new Superman, and they're going to do Justice League, all the characters, which I think is a cool idea. And we're going to get Wonder Woman to work."
Writer-director Joss Whedon was attached but left the project a few weeks ago. A new script popped up, which was written by newcomers Matthew Jennison and Brent Strickland. The new story is set during WWII, but Silver explains that the script will not be the basis for the movie; "We didn't buy it for that. There were some good ideas in it, but it was out there, and we wanted to just kind of not have it not floating around. We wanted just to acquire it and keep it. We'll make it work. You know, it's going to work. We just couldn't figure it out, but we'll get there."
I hope they will, I'll keep you posted!

Jon Favreau talks Iron Man!:
Lots of superhero flick news today, director Jon Favreau has posted an updated on Iron Man at his official site! Here's a clip;
"First off, the sets are all being built, the locations are locked and the cast is, for the most part, set. As you all know, RDJ (editor's note, that's Robert Downey Jr.), Gwyneth, T Howard, and Jeff Bridges are all on board. We've had a week of rehearsals and I'm currently working with the writers to tailor the material accordingly. Mr. Bridges has a haircut that will no doubt be of interest to any of you fans of the books.
Stan Winston Studios has been unveiling suits for us. Once again, they have exceeded our expectations. Those of you who follow my career know that I am very skeptical about the overuse of CGI. I am happy to report that the film will be a healthy mix of both computer generated and practical effects. My goal is to make the two integrate in a way that they usually do not.
I've never been involved with a film this size. I've been prepping for almost a year and feel extremely confident in the enormously qualified team we've assembled. I would be lying, however, if I didn't admit that the scale of this project was daunting. I'm pretty confident that I've done and will continue to do my homework and that I'm ready, but so much is unknown. I feel like a ship's captain about to sail for the New World. Who can truly predict weather fortune or disaster awaits in the great unknown? Regardless, I thank God every day for his blessings."
Excellent! I think Favreau will make a great film, wish him all the best!
