Newsflash:
Hi guys, the last newsflash of the week, I'll be back with a new update this weekend!;
Little Miss Sunshine Oscar winner Alan Arkin has been cast in the big screen version of Get Smart! Arkin joins Anne Hathaway, The Rock, Terrence Stamp and Steve Carell who will play the leading role of the secret agent. Source: The Hollywood Reporter
Robert Downey Jr. and Jay Baruchel will star in the comedy Tropic Thunder. In the film, everything goes bad during the making of a war movie and the actors end up becoming the commandos they are playing. The comedy will be directed by Ben Stiller! Source: The Hollywood Reporter
Once again, a classic horror flick will be revisited, this time David Cronenberg's Scanners will be remade. But guess what, this time I'm pretty excited, cause Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II & III) will direct, and it's getting even better, David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, Blade) will write the script! A fantastic looking international poster for Die Hard 4.0 a.k.a. Live Free or Die Hard appeared online! Willis looks mighty fine! Click for a bigger version!

Star Trek XI update!:
'Internet... the final frontier...' or is it 'Space, the final frontier'? Anyway, news on the Star Trek vehicle popped up online. Official sources confirm that J.J. Abrams (Lost and M:I:III) will direct Star Trek XI, aiming for a Christmas 2008 release. The script is co-written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, unofficial sources speculate that the story revolves around the early years of Capt. James T. Kirk and Spock at Starfleet Academy. The same unofficial sources also have inside casting info, check this out; Matt Damon as Captain Kirk, Adrien Brody as Mr. Spock, Gary Sinise as Dr. Leonard McCoy and Lost star Daniel Dae Kim as Sulu! Very interesting but take it with a chunk of salt cause no decisions have been made by the studio on the film's budget, casting or production start date.

And the Oscar goes to...:
Finally, Marty Scorsese won a golden paper-weight! The Departed, one of my favorite flicks of 2006, received 4 Oscars, including adapted screenplay, director, best film and the wonderful Thelma Schoonmaker for editing! I'm also very pleased that Jennifer Hudson received an Oscar for her outstanding performance in Dreamgirls and Alan Arkin for his hilarious performance as grandpa in Little Miss Sunshine. Too bad that Superman Returns didn't win for visual effects though. Check out the rundown of the winners, click here for the complete list!

Newsflash:
WB has hired Kiernan and Michele Mulroney to write the script for Justice League of America. The JLA team includes the major DC superheroes; Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash, Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter. The film will probably be without Bats and Supes (and maybe Wonder Woman) cause they already got their own flicks. Source: The Hollywood Reporter
Don Cheadle, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Martin Sheen star in the drama-comedy Talk to Me. Don Cheadle plays a DJ with a big mouth, check out the interesting trailer right here.
Nicolas Cage and Julianne Moore star in the sci-fi flick Next. The film about a man who can see into the future is based on Philip K. Dick's short story, Once Were Warriors' Lee Tamahori directs. Click here for the action-packed trailer.
Sin City creator and co-director, Frank Miller, gives an update on the sequel! The film will adapt A Dame to Kill for, also includes a new Sin City tale and puts in a prequel to The Hard Goodbye as well. Check this out; "The script is largely done, and now we're in that limbo zone where we're casting and making script adjustments as we go. The new one features Nancy Callahan in a very different, very scary role. I'm hoping we'll start in late spring. It gets pretty hot in Austin, so there might be a summer's interruption there, but both Robert and I really want to be shooting this thing as soon as possible." Source: Sci-fi Wire
