Movie: Spider-Man 3
Director: Sam Raimi
Actors: Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Thomas Haden Church, Topher Grace, Bryce Dallas Howard, James Cromwell, Rosemary Harris, J.K. Simmons, Ted Raimi

Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire) is getting a pretty hard time in this one. New hottie Gwen Stacy (Bryce Dallas Howard) is stirring up Peter's relationship with Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst). His job at the Daily Bugle is being filled by the photographer Eddie Brock (Topher Grace). Harry Osborn (James Franco) still wants his revenge and plans to kill Spidey. An alien symbiont is taking over Parker's body, which enhances his emotional state of mind. And last but not least, we've got two new villains; enter Sandman and Venom!

A whole bunch of new characters join the regular cast. The very beautiful Bryce Dallas Howard is Parker's new love interest, a very tiny role of James Cromwell as her dad, Thomas Haden Church is excellent as Sandman and Topher Grace surprises as Brock/Venom.

It's a tough job for director Sam Raimi to surpass the superior Spider-Man 2. Raimi, who wrote the script for Spider-man 3 with his brother Ivan, included more action and even more drama. The poor Parker really gets beaten up this time, physically and emotionally.
I've decided to wait a couple of days before writing this review, 'cause I left the movie theater a bit confused. Spider-Man 2 simply blew me away. Spider-Man 3 is a well-made superhero flick with very interesting plotlines and breath-taking visual effects, but unfortunately the movie has its flaws. Raimi tries too hard to make a movie with the intention to go beyond Spider-Man 2, but it all results in a film that feels a bit forced. More drama and more action doesn't make a sequel better. Spider-Man 3 also delivers some pretty hard to watch scenes and dialogs. The last part of the film feels like its going on too long and could have been cut differently to speed things up.

It's hard for me to admit that Spider-Man 3 is not that great as its predecessor. Maybe my expectations were too high or maybe it's simply impossible to produce a better movie than the already flawless Spider-Man 2. Is Spider-Man 3 a total flop? Absolutely not! Spider-Man 3 fits perfectly into the franchise and forms an amazing conclusion to the trilogy. The actors are all a joy to watch, the visual effects are finger-licking good. Spider-Man 3 doesn't reach the level of the previous film but it still is a very, very entertaining superhero epic.

Not as good as Spider-Man 2, but the movie still rocks!
