Reggy's Film Top Ten 2007:
As usual, I couldn't find the time to see more movies than I wanted to. I wish I'd seen more independent and Asian movies but they had to back for the mainstream films. It's remarkable though that I don't have one big winner this year. My film list is based on originality, something new for a change, or simply because it's highly entertaining. There are a few films on the list from last year, but that's because of the big gap between the American and Dutch release dates. Without further ado, worldwide filmfans, here it is, Reggy's favorite films of 2007;

Stardust
Surprise of the year. A wonderful fantasy film with a new take on the genre. Slightly different than you'd expect, hilarious and reminded me of The Princess Bride.

The Invisible
Writer-director David S. Goyer delivers a remake of a Swedish flick. A great thriller-drama with a very original premise. If you haven't seen it, check it out without reading the synopsis on the dvd box.

Stranger Than Fiction
Will Ferrell plays the leading role in the comedy directed by Marc Forster (Monster's Ball). Hilarious and unique story about a man who hears a woman's voice that serves as a narrator of his life.

Beowulf
New 3-D technology, great movie experience. Zemeckis slapped me in the face with this gritty fantasy epic.

Ratatouille
Next to Bee Movie, one of the best and prettiest computer animated features of the year. The line between real cinema and CG becomes blurry with this film.

The Fountain
You like this flick or you don't. I think it's a freakin' masterpiece. Great acting by Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz, bizarre story and amazing visuals by director Darren Aronofsky.

300
Zack Snyder succeeds in transferring Frank Miller's graphic novel to the big screen. A violent piece of art with giant fucking balls.

Eastern Promises
The magic duo; David Cronenberg and Viggo Mortensen! After the overwhelming A History of Violence, Cronenberg and Mortensen surprises with this new Russian mafia drama. I intensely enjoyed Viggo's performance (and that's not because of the sauna sequence) and of course Cronenberg's edgy style.

Transformers
Michael Bay, you love him or you hate him. Nobody can blow up stuff in an almost enchanting way like Bay. Transformers is the popcorn flick of the year! Autobots, roll out!

Pan's Labyrinth
Very moving story. Guillermo Del Toro is a master in combining magic and the harsh reality of life. A film that sticks with you for a while.
