After Sin City, it's time for the adaptation of Frank Miller's award-winning graphic novel 300. The movie tells the impressive story of the battle between 300 Spartan warriors, led by King Leonidas, against a giant Persian army. In the eyes of the enemy, The Greeks won't stand a chance but what the Persians don't know is that the tough Spartans are born warriors.
The relatively unknown Gerard Butler (Beowulf & Grendel) portrays the changeling role of Leonidas. A charismatic King and ruthless warrior, trained to kill from the moment he was born. Gerard convinces as the King with his powerful and emotional performance. Other noticeable supporting roles include Lena Heady as Queen Gorgo and Vincent Regan as Captain of the soldiers.
Robert Rodriguez simply nailed Frank Miller's film-noirish comic Sin City without losing the characteristic style if the artist. The very talented director Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead) does exactly the same. His 300 is a perfect copy of Miller's graphic novel, a comic that comes to life. Real actors in CG environments, rendered colors, contrasts and shadows, all in the vein of Miller's panels. But besides the visual orgasm, Zack Snyder also focuses on this gripping tale of intrigue, conspiracies and a bunch of warriors who are motivated by a special code of honor.
The stylized ancient Greek in 300 can't be compared to other historical films like Gladiator or Troy. 300 is unique, intense and extremely violent, just the way I like it! Prepare yourselves, my film warriors, for a very rough and intense movie experience!
